((USS Artemis | Deck 3 | Main Mess Hall))
Even though Vulcans were not known for showing their emotions, it did not mean they turned away from anything social. In other words, while they may not be the life of the party, they would at least be in attendance. It wasn't uncommon for Savel to seek different groups to socialize with during trips to common areas on the ship. Still, he also noted that other species would gravitate to more familiar social settings.
He wasn't surprised that a group of the new Ensigns had ended up sitting at the same table with one another in the mess hall and that their gathered presence had attracted another.
Jovenan: Ensigns, so nice to see you again! May I join you?
Savel: I have no objection.
Any ensigns: Response
A slight nod in greeting was given to Jovenan as she joined them at the table.
Jovenan: So, do you have any shore leave ideas? Planning to go exploring the planet or staying on the ship?
Savel: I plan to visit Vdam; I am interested in learning more about the Da'al and their system of government.
Any ensigns: Response
It wasn't exactly the most exciting plan of the century for his shore leave vacation, but it always helped to broaden one's understanding of other cultures. Plus, visiting somewhere you had never been before was always interesting.
Jovenan: Actually, I do have an idea, if you’re interested. I was reading the database on Meranuge IV, and there’s a place called La’kso canyon in the northern hemisphere. It runs through a spot that has rich deposit of kelbonite and some luminescent minerals. Kelbonite blocks transporters, so it would be necessary to walk through it to see the best spots from ground. I’ve heard it’s a geologically unique formation, not to mention a beautiful place.
Savel: I have also read that it is the only place on the planet it is possible to observe a certain species of birdlike creature, the scaled monarch. Our database only mentions that it has an almost reptilian appearance, hence the "scaled" moniker while possessing the same flight abilities as most birds. Very little else is known about them.
Any ensigns: Response
Since the Da'al had not joined the Federation, most of the information about the planet had come from records shared by the Da'al government with Starfleet. The group of ensigns could use this chance to not only satisfy personal curiosities but also to increase Starfleet's knowledge of the planet as a whole.
Jovenan: So, anyone interested on a little camping trip? We would need to walk quite a distance to get to the other side of the deposits and camp a night there. I think it could be exciting!
Savel: It does have the potential to be an intriguing venture; I will join.
Any ensigns: Response
In case they needed approval from senior officers, it might also help that a security officer would be a part of the group, just in case they ran into trouble.
Savel: Ensign Jovenan, when did you plan for this expedition to leave?
Jovenan: Response
