(( Outskirts of the Bantlox Colony - Laoi III ))

Sadar: We’ll get the evacuation zones set up... P-Please get the evacuation itself started

She hoped it would turn out to be exaggerated caution on their part, not just because of the potential damage to Laoi III’s colonial infrastructure, but also because losing the Dominion wreck in an explosion would render it virtually useless as a historical artefact. Evidently, Administrator Bim Pend was unconvinced about the necessity of the evacuation as he started grumbling at Gila’s request.

Bim Pend: ::grumbles:: Comes in here and act like they own the place. ::louder:: I’ll get my people gathered.

The Administrator stalked off towards Bantlox itself in a huff, and Gila found the tension in her shoulders easing slightly at the Tellarite’s disappearance.

Gnai: That… could have been smoother, this thinks. He was far less cooperative than expected.

Vailani: I don't trust him.

Not an entirely unexpected outcome.

Sadar: The relations between the Federation and the DMZ colonies hasn’t been the best since the war... A-Afraid we’re going to have to be the first step for Laoi III to start trusting it again. ::to Vai-net:: All right, Chief of Operations. How can we help?

Vai-net resaddled, focusing away from the disagreeable Tellarite, and instead focusing on the work ahead of them.

Vailani: I'm concerned about this wind. I'd prefer to assess risk before we agree on the exact location of the evacuation site.

Gnai: ::bobbing in its tank:: That’s reasonable, sir.

Vailani: Next up we establish the settlements that have available space. As I said we prioritise hospitals and clinics. Shouldn't take me long to figure out how many beds they'll have left over. The evacuation shelters will be for overflow. If we need them.

Sadar: All right.

Gnai: Anything else right away, sir?

Vailani: Yes, can you tell me how worried I need to be about this coastal breeze? If we can have a meteorological scan of the planet?

Gila looked up as Vai-net asked this, feeling the fresh salty breeze nip playfully in her hood. On a planet like Earth or Mizabet, where she knew the weather development, she wouldn’t be concerned about this extent of weather, but Vai-net’s query was a valid one. Depending on the planet, weather could develop in dramatically different ways and at varying speeds. Gila unholstered her PADD, easily linking up with Laoi III’s global network. Definitely one of the perks of a colony that had been almost a century in the making.

Sadar: I can access the Galaktoboureko’s computer from here. Should have gotten a good deal of data on our approach with those new sensors...

Gnai: Not to interrupt but, sirs… you said that there weren’t good relations between the Federation and these colonies. What is the plan if the colonists are somehow… less inclined to accept assistance than their administrator? Some of them might not want to move, even briefly?

Gila didn’t want to consider that. Federation aliens, or any aliens really, had proven to her time and again that not all of them possessed the Vulcans’ capacity for doing the logical thing, even if it was counter to their own comfort or desires, and it was intensely disappointing.

If she just believed hard enough - and ignored any other possible delineation - she could manifest a completely trouble-free evacuation! Yes.

Vailani: We offer our help, we provide them with the information and a thorough assessment of the risks. If they choose to stay after that then there is very little we can do about it.  We'll still help them in whatever way they want. Given Bim Pend still agreed to evacuate, that gives me some hope they'll see sense. Having a Dominion Attack Ship on your doorstep may be a good motivator.

Gnai: Response

Vailani: Any thoughts or questions?

oO No, let’s just get this done before the Wheel decides to capsize us! Oo

Sadar: None. I just hope this proceeds smoothly, so we can get back to the wreck in time.

Gnai: Response

Vailani: We should set up an Emergency Operations area in the evac zone, once we've got a precise location :: to Gnai :: How quickly can we make an assessment on location?

Gnai: Response

Gila nodded, eager to get underway. Thankfully, Lieutenant Gnai was, as ever, a very effective officer, and she was pleased that they could get started sooner rather than later.

Sadar: All right, let’s-

Whatever Gila was about to say was interrupted by an awful sound coming from her uniform. Obviously, it wasn’t actually her uniform sounding like metal grating against her tympani, but rather her combadge.

Silveira: =/\= Silv…. Doc…or Sada…puh…ease res… =/\=

Sil-net’s voice was entirely warped by the interference, to an extent where Gila was barely able to recognize it.

Sadar: =/\= Sil-net? This is Doctor Sadar, come in. =/\=

Silveira: =/\= It’s ha…. To….derstand…ou. I …… hunch this …..older….until …. ge…..inside …. n’t be sure. …..nsidering …….. in. Ple…. Vise =/\=

Gnai/Vailani: Response

Sadar: It must be the Ship, the same thing that’s been messing with the colony’s computers. =/\= Sil-net.  You still aren’t clear. Stand by- =/\=

She wasn’t sure what she could do to boost the signal strength, or at least make a valid attempt at circumventing the interference caused by the wreck, but whatever she was about to suggest was cut off by a loud, familiar and unexpectedly alarmed voice, as Administrator Bim Pend came bolting towards them from the colony, flanked by a few of the Bantlox citizens.

Bim Pend: Starfleet! Starfleet!

Gila stared at the running Tellarite, seemingly all animosity shed like a mottled skin.

Sadar: Administrator? S-Sorry, we still haven’t-

Bim Pend: ::heaves for breath:: Never mind that, we’ve got a problem!

Vailani/Gnai: Response

Bim Pend: Some of our kids are missing.

Gila’s eyes widened.

Sadar: K-K-Kids? Wh-What do you mean!?

Female Colonist: My son and a couple of his friends are missing, we can’t find them! We think they might’ve gone into the old caves down the coast.

The colonist - a Human-looking woman in her middle age - looked towards the coastal outcropping upon which the water treatment plant sat. Now, Gila wasn’t a genius by any metric, but it didn’t take a genius to realize where those caves might be located.

Sadar: Oh no.

Vailani/Gnai: Response
