(( Main Engineering - Deck 16, USS Artemis-A ))
The young ensign was feeling a little more relaxed. He had arrived at a solution to the Lieutenant’s computer problem; albeit by a process of elimination, but he had arrived, nevertheless. Hooking a second computer core into the Shuttle’s primary core was a relatively straightforward task; it did, however, require the permission of a senior engineer. It was this final piece of the puzzle, the Mizarian Lieutenant appeared to find problematic; though, the Andorian ensign could guess as to no reason why.
Sadar: The mission departs in a couple of days, so I hope that’d be plenty of time. We aren’t often this close to the Alpha Quadrant, so we need to get as much value out of the trip as we possibly can.
The ensign switched his attention back to the lieutenant. He nodded along as he listened.
Tho’Bi: :: still nodding :: Best to make an early start. We should speak with Lieutenant Minthar now :: looks around :: If we can find him.
Sadar: W-Well, I’ve already interrupted your shift, I wouldn’t want to impose on Lieutenant Minthar as well. B-Besides, he ::looks around in a paranoid fashion:: doesn’t seem to be here right now?
If the young ensign had not been so fixated on his own inability to locate the senior engineer, he might have noticed the Lieutenant’s reluctance to find Lieutenant Minthar.
Tho’Bi: Sorry about this, Lieutenant. :: looks quickly around :: I’ll ask one of the other ensigns.
He made a move in the direction of the nearest ensign, only to be blocked by the Lieutenant. So quickly had she moved, it caught him a little off guard; and though his feet remained planted to the deck, his upper-body lurched backwards, in an instinctive attempt to create space between the two of them.
Sadar: Ensign Tho’Bi!
Tho’Bi: Yes! :: his eyes wide ::
The ensign heard his own voice, shriller than he had intended.
Sadar: I-I don’t want to keep you from your work any longer, especially not after interrupting you in such a rude manner! I-I’ll send a formal request to Lieutenant Minthar, and he’ll do what he deems best, I’m sure.
Though a little stunned, he was still eager to impress.
Tho’Bi: Oh-Kay. If you’re sure that’s best… because I could just :: points in direction of another engineering ensign :: as-
The Lieutenant cut him off.
Sadar: Oh no, I-I’m quite sure! ::pretends to look at the chronometer:: B-Besides, I need to get back to Sickbay soon.
With that, the Mizarian Lieutenant began backing away from him; and though the young ensign still did not full understand the reasons why, he had experience enough of his own anxiety to recognize it in others. It was clearly best to impede the Lieutenant no further.
Tho’Bi: Yes, Lieutenant. :: he nodded ::
Sadar: Y-Yes, right, of course. Uhh, I shall mention that in my communication! H-Have a nice day, Ensign.
Tho’Bi: Yes, Lieutenant. You too. Have a nice d-
She was gone. The warp core pulsed quietly in the background. The andorian ensign stood for a moment, in a state of stunned bemusement.
Tho’Bi: oO Mention what in her communication? I didn’t say anything Oo
