((Ready Room, Deck 1, Artemis-A))
Having been invited in Lyara opened the door, she made eye contact with the captain as she stopped in front of the desk. She stood for a moment trying to find the right greeting before she spoke.
Lyara: Ensign Lyara reporting for duty sir.
Mackenzie: ::gesturing:: Have a seat. How was the trip?
She gently took a seat across from the Captain and put on a polite smile to hide her nerves.
Lyara: The shuttle ride was nice, I got to visit Deep Space Nine for a small pilgrimage. And I got to meet Dr. Sadar, she was very nice.
Recounting her visit had helped ease her nerves. She genuinely did enjoy the trip even if the shuttle ride had proven uncomfortable, she made a new acquaintance which was enough for her to count as a success. Her nerves finally calmed, a more natural smile formed on her face.
Mackenzie: Do you have your orders, Lieutenant?
She raised a brow at being called lieutenant but brushed it off and politely handed her the PADD.
Lyara: Yes sir, right here.
MacKenzie: Denali Station, eh? Not a very long posting…
Once it registered in Lyara’s head that she didn’t exactly ask a question her smile faded.
Lyara: Yes, it was short…
Lyara looked at the captain nervously. As Mackenzie leaned forward on her desk she felt herself lean back without realizing it.
MacKenzie: Why are you here?
She was shocked at the bluntness of the question, even if it was a fair one to ask. It was true she hadn’t been on Denali long, but the aftermath of frontier day meant manpower needed to be replenished. Lyara was one of many officers sent to help fill in the personnel they lost.
Lyara: Well, after… ::She hesitates:: frontier day, I was ordered to be stationed on a ship to help out.
Even if that was the truth she felt unsure saying it. During that day she had been at Bajor, and she could feel a sense of grief rising in her as she brought up helping out.
Mackenzie: Response
Lyara: Yes, sir. I was ordered by Starfleet to be reassigned here as helm and ops.
Lyara looked to her commanding officer for confirmation. Usually, she was very confident in herself and in answering questions, but in that moment she was nervous under the captain's scrutiny.
Mackenzie: Response
Lyara: Maybe the prophets guided me here, maybe I was just needed elsewhere. But, I feel like here I will be able to help others and assist the crew.
She was still nervous, however, she felt she had finally broken the ice. Lyara was still optimistic about her posting, and that she could help others like she intended when first joining.
Mackenzie: Response
