((CMO’s Office - Primary Sickbay, Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))
Sadar: What is Lt. Commander Hopper’s prognosis? I know her crew is waiting anxiously for the go-ahead back to the Delta Quadrant.
Adea: The procedure was a success, it’s all recovery now. As soon as she’s awake, I can authorise her transfer back to her ship. I will need to discuss her treatment with my counterpart on Amity.
Sadar: I see…
Gila was relieved to hear that the Centauran Lieutenant Commander was going to make a steady recovery - at least one that would allow her to return to her crew. Gila had little knowledge of Lt. Commander Hopper - having only met her once on Velestus prior to her appearance on the Borg Cube - but she seemed a kind soul, if perhaps a bit too overly lax on decorum... Though, considering the impressions Gila had gotten from the rest of the crew aboard the Kitty Hawk, that was probably an unfortunate side effect from service in the Delta Quadrant. Perhaps it was a coping mechanism to handle the degree of isolation the Outpost had to the rest of the Federation?
Sadar: S-Sir, I, uhh... I realize that the Artemis was hit hard during Frontier Day, but the data from Earth and Earth Spacedock isn’t... They aren’t promising, and they’re looking for volunteers to assist in the most damaged areas, establishing triage centers, overseeing trauma surgeries, managing casualty lists… ::pause:: I’m a Crisis Care Specialist, and uhh, probably more useful there than I’d be here. ::pause:: I r-r-request your permission to sign myself up.
Commander Adea seemed to consider her request for a moment, putting down the biscuit he’d taken a bite out of. The wait wasn’t as long as Gila had expected, and was alarmingly void of jokes and barbs.
Adea: Of course. I would be worried if you hadn’t volunteered.
Was this it? Had her luck finally turned?
Sadar: ::deflates:: O-Oh! Th-Thank you, Sir! I’ll have the appropriate forms submitted by the end of the day.
Adea: Have you been to Earth before?
Gila slowly nodded, visibly more at ease now that her request had been made and accepted. As much as she detested the idea of ‘small talk’, she was still riding high on the feeling of comfort from being back in the Artemis’ Sickbay, amongst trusted colleagues and her familiar Chief.
Sadar: Y-Yes Sir. I studied at the SanFran Campus for the first two years of my time at the Academy.
Adea: Response
Gila had the decency to look slightly embarrassed.
Sadar: Uhh... N-No. I must admit I saw precious little of the planet during that time... ::cheek folds vibrate:: I rarely left Campus, as I’m sure you can imagine.
Adea: Response
Sadar: I’ll, uh, take that under advisement, though I doubt I’ll have much time for sightseeing, considering the state of Earth’s crisis sites... ::wrings her hands nervously:: I-I’m relieved that the Artemis wasn’t hit as hard… Though I was concerned when I saw the state of Deck 1 on the shuttle’s approach. ::awkward pause:: Is it true that wasn’t the Borg’s doing?
Adea: Response
