Imril: Yeah. And this other part here, it connects to something as well. This might not be the whole adapter. But a ‘valve’ of some sort. A patch to a larger item on the ship.

Jaran: ::to K'Wara:: Ok, so I know where we're ending. But I really am just not sure where to start with this... virtual gunk.

K’Wara: Let’s try and minimize the scope of the transporter pattern. ::color-codes the data:: These areas are too garbled to make sense of, so let’s ignore those for now and focus on the bits that seem more likely to clear up well enough.

Jira input a few commands and the data rearranged itself. It condensed and a few segments resolved into uncorrupted data.

Jaran: Well, that got us somewhere. So far, we're only reinforcing the idea that this is a Romulan, though. ::points:: See there, those are some of the most important markers. But nothing new. All the information we need for more information is in these nearly useless chunks.

Bergmen continued his work on the part's analysis, in the mean time.

Bergmen: Anything found so far that could be helpful?

Imril: Mechanically, physically, the device has very robust magnetic resistances. Able to stand up to heavy stresses caused by a magnetic direction field. The inner lining has components similar to those in a particle accelerator. But it requires connection to an outside power source to perform that function. ::Typing:: Activating the model Afalqi… Several of those supplemental systems I found in the walls went active in response to the device.

K’Wara: I agree, that’s what I’m seeing too. ::considers:: The scrambling methodology isn’t random. Someone - on either side of the transporter - used a deliberate system to ruin the pattern, likely to prevent anyone from doing what we’re trying to do. Let's try and cycle through some reparative algorithms we have on file, see if one matches.

The computer made little "nope" and "wrong" noises a few times, while Jira kindly asked for help. But on one of the tries, half a segment flashed orange and resolved into clarity.

Jaran: Whoa! That's... not much, but it's progress!

Jira pointed at the newly cleared section.

Jaran: That right there? If we can clean up two or three more sections from that area, we're starting to get into phenotype information. We could potentially construct at least a wireframe of who we're looking at.

Bergmen: Are those data confirmed? Because they do not make sense until they would weaponize that input, right?

Imril: I see where you’re headed. ::Typing:: EPS grid analysis confirms standard plasma flow across the other parts of the ship, yet I’m reading an uptick in the levels being produced by the engines. It’s got to be passing through the device. You might want to re-do the calculations to be sure.

Bergmen: No, the numbers check. That input calculation is correct. Comparison analysis too.

Imril: ::Typing:: Power output from the warp engine is staying within parameters expected by the schematics. The dilithium chamber’s maintaining steady plasma generation. The device is keeping up with the load. Could keep going for some time.

Jira modified the repair method slightly and attempted again. Another segment resolved into clarity and joined the previous.

Jaran: ::excitedly:: Commander, I think I may be seeing the beginning of a pattern. It's too early to say, but I may be on to being able to reverse most of this damage entirely. If it works.

K’Wara: Response

Bergmen looked reluctant to speak, but Imril gave them a half smile and a nod to K’Wara. He glanced at K'Wara.

Bergmen: Sir? …Commander? Do we… Do we know the weaponry standard and typology Da’al possesses?

K’Wara: Response

Imril: I certainly don’t remember seeing anything like this the last time I encountered Da’al.

Imril: Simulated responses are consistent with the device being involved in regulating plasma acceleration. Tactical-grade plasma acceleration.

Jira was vaguely aware of the conversation happening next to them, but they were on a success streak. Another segment flashed orange and joined the others.

K’Wara/Bergmen: Response

Imril: It could be a novel, if reckless, means of boosting power to some other system. Or just powering the unidentified tech.

One more piece unlocked on Jira's screen. That was enough. All the markers pointed to Romulan still, and they had enough information to start piecing together an individual.

K’Wara/Bergmen: Response

Imril: Whatever it’s powering, it’s definitely hungry and possibly very big. Based on the differential between plasma output from the engines and the amount being circulated around the rest of the ship, there should be more than one of these ‘accelerators’ sharing the load. I’d say at least four.

Jira pulled up the medical simulation suite on the conference room screen. A completely featureless, vaguely humanoid, blob rotated on it.

Jaran: Don't mind me. You can watch if you want. I just wanted a better view while I, you know, unlocked the secrets that no one is meant to know.

K’Wara/Bergmen: Response

Jira fed one segment of transporter data into the simulator. The blob now had two clearly defined legs, two clearly defined arms, a torso, and a head.

Jaran: That's the most basic phenotype data. It's at the core of every transporter pattern of a living being.

K'Wara/Imril/Bergmen: Response

The humanoid figure distorted and then resolved into a shape that had what could only be musculature beneath pale skin. But it was still featureless.

Jaran: Now, this portion is a little less clear. I'm still missing a few primary markers, but I have enough to make a good guess at some of the more notable internals. Nothing is interfering with our assumption of "Romulan" yet.

K'Wara/Imril/Bergmen: Response

The last segment was added to the simulation, and the figure distorted again. Jira looked incredulously at the screen while it resolved.

oO Well. That can't be right. Oo

Jaran: Commander, I... I don't have any explanation for... whatever it is we're seeing. Is that even possible?

K'Wara/Imril/Bergmen: Response
