((OOC: Others in the camping/hiking scene haven’t been responding, but I’ll keep the scene up and moving so they can still jump back in or drop out if they want.))
((La’kso Canyon, Meranuge IV))
The darkness of the space turned to light as they crossed the skies, and the wide terrain was revealed beneath them. After an uneventful albeit uncomfortable ride on the fully packed shuttlepod down from the orbit, the Perseus flew above the brown and yellow and orange canyon. Jovenan looked down from the shuttlepod window to the majestic, deep and high cliffs of the relatively narrow canyon, mostly bare rock but every now and then glittering with whichever plants dared to grow on those steep faces. Down in the canyon, a meagre river flowed past its ancient, grandiose handicraft. A few dwarf trees could be spotted growing by its shores, otherwise the land was barren on greenery.
The Perseus landed to their designated site. After the shuttlepod landed, they had the hatch opened, and the warm, dry air flooded the small pod. Having to move some backpacks aside first, Jovenan stepped out and held her back.
Jovenan: Ugh, that’s definitely not my favourite way to travel.
Savel/Kader/Lorana: Response
There was a call of a bird – at least it sounded like a bird, similar to the birds of prey found on many planets. Jovenan looked around, but she couldn’t locate the bird. Instead, she found the beautiful rings of the planet, poking above the horizon. The rings had occasionally covered the sun in Tecra, on the southern hemisphere. An educated planetary scientist like Jovenan had no trouble identifying the cause of difference between what they saw on the southern hemisphere and what they were seeing here in the north: the planet was tilted so that the north pole was closer to the sun, so the rings were casting a shadow on the part that was on their line. In other words, it was summer here and winter, no matter how warm, down there.
She pulled her tricorder out of her belt; she was on shoreleave, but she had grown into habit of carrying it almost everywhere out of the ship. She initiated a scan, but the figures were all scrambled up. It was expected, but she still frowned slightly.
Jovenan: We’re within the kelbonite deposit for sure. Scanners will be quite useless for now.
Savel/Kader/Lorana: Response
Checking the small side-pocket first, Jovenan flung her pack to her back. She quickly adjusted it better, evening the load on her shoulders. If she were to carry the entire thing on one shoulder for the several kilometres they had planned to trek, she would need to visit the sickbay for more than just sunburns.
Jovenan: Anyone want to tell a story while we walk? What’s something interesting you all have done and want to share?
