((Maintenance Observation Lounge - Deck 372 - DS224))

Ava wasn't the type to get flustered or unravel in front of senior officers. It was never quite her style, she wasn't sure if it was living with a professor before and during much of her Academy years that took off that glossy tint that junior officers applied to the more senior officers on their ship or the fleet. Until now.

Maybe it was the long journey across the galaxy, or fatigue from the previous mission battling a madwoman who'd lost everything - many times in her long life. What she thought, naively, would be a routine meet and greet introduction had begun with misunderstanding (on her own part) and now a slightly more convivial interaction had developed between them - the Captain had even told a joke.

Yet, there was something just underneath the Captain's words, a thread that Ava couldn't resist pulling on. It was the Operations Officer within her, the curious desire to figure out how things operated. That included Addison MacKenzie, it would seem.

Munro: I hope you don't mind me saying so but it does sound like you need a reminder of your own advice from earlier. And I quote ‘your entire life can't be about this job’?

Ava thought that this may be the moment she's drummed out of the fleet…

MacKenzie held her face steady, except for the slightest tightening of the muscles at one corner of her lips. Ava took this to be a good sign.

MacKenzie: Just through the door and already have my psycho-analyzed, Commander?

Ava held up her hands.

Munro: I don't mean to pry, honestly that's not my intention.

The Fleet Captain smiled more deliberately.

MacKenzie: Wasn’t it, though?

Munro: Simply an observation. If it was too personal feel free to oO airlock Oo :: clears throat :: ignore me.

She was relieved when the Captain smiled and seemed to wave her hand dismissively.

MacKenzie: I tell you what, when you figure out how, let me know and we can compare notes. Until then, let’s make it a point to make sure we hold each other accountable to doing the best job the other can, and then some.

Ava nodded.

Munro: You'll get nothing less from me.

Ava was slightly taken aback and amused when MacKenzie extended her hand across the table. She was reminded, as she often was when presented with a handshake, of her father's explanation.

oO seal the deal Oo

Of course he would, disgustingly, spit into his palm before locking hands and she had no intention of doing that to MacKenzie.

MacKenzie: You have yourself a deal.

Ava took the Captain's hand in her own, sans spit, and shook.

Munro: I look forward to it.

((OOC - this feels like a nice place to end the scene? Happy to continue if you like too?))

End Scene for Munro?
