((La’kso Canyon, Meranuge IV))
((OOC: “Ensign” in the title is deliberate. Also, as people seem to have missed some lines of my last post in this scenes, I’ve changed them to better fit in what others have said.))
Jovenan sat on the dusty ground. She had made it over the cliff and back on the clearing, as had Luxa who was now treated by Commander Adea. Other ensigns had seemingly survived without a scratch. Lt Dakora and the security officers were either interrogating the Da’al ambushers or patrolling the surroundings for other surprises. It seemed that the failed trekking trip had ended and her usability to the investigation was also closing its conclusion. She sipped from her water bottle as she wondered if the other ensigns would hate her when they learn about her not revealing the true motive for the trip.
Braga: Sirs, I think you should come see this!
Jovena turned her head quickly. For a second, she was annoyed by the disruption of her pause, but then again, they were in middle of enemy territory. They couldn’t afford to ignore alarms.
Adea: On the double, officers.
Almost jumping from her seating, Jovenan jogged to the place where the security officer was calling them. Behind her, Commander Adea was assisting Luxa.
Lorana: Can you help me up Commander? I'd rather be on my paws, if I can, in case anymore Da'al make an appearance.
Adea: You’re with me, Luxa. Take it easy.
After reaching the security officer, Jovenan took a look on what they had found.
Osuna: Response?
Braga: We were sweeping the perimeter when I caught a glimpse of this thing behind the vines.
Hidden among the rocky cliffs and vines, where they might have just missed it, was a pair of large doors. It suddenly made more sense why the Da’al had attacked them here: they might have been watching them for long, but only when they came too close to the hiding place had the ambushers chosen a more direct approach.
Dakora: Good eyes Ensign Braga. ::His brow furrowed.:: Anyone have anything that’ll get this thing open?
Savel: Response
Jovenan: I can help with the controls.
Kader: Response
Lt Dakora and the security approached the door while Jovenan and others went for the control panel. After a while, they managed to bypass the control passcodes and force the door open. The doors began to move, making an awful sound. Jovenan took cover by the rocks, anticipating hideout guards firing at them. However, the doors opened, and nothing came out. Jovenan couldn’t see inside, but judging by the reaction of the security team, there were no-one home.
Osuna/Savel: Response
Commander Adea and Luxa made it to the hangar as well.
Dakora: Glad to see you got Luxa up and around, Commander. ::He gestured to the facility.:: If the evidence pans out, this might be the ship that redirected the meteor. We’ll have to bring a forensics team here to pour over the site.
Adea: Response
Jovenan approached the senior officers.
Jovenan: Is there anything we can do, sir?
Kader/Lorana: Response
Lt Dakora looked around, probably thinking if he had any use for the ensigns. In her mind, Jovenan had to admit that she wanted the senior officers just to send them back the ship. The Lieutenant turned to Lt Osuna.
Dakora: If you can loan me a few of your Officers I can stay and hold this area while you and Commander Adea get everyone else back to the Artemis on the runabout. We’ll still have that Shuttlepod in case of an emergency.
Osuna/Adea: Response
Jovenan tried to hide how relieved she was. No more secret missions, no more trekking across hazardous wilderness and no more trigger-happy Da’al. She was practically already in her bed.
The team that was assigned to return to the ship began to gather their belongings and prepare to walk back to the runabout, and so did Jovenan retrieve her backpack. Nearby was Luxa’s bag, which made Jovenan worry if Luxa was in condition to walk back.
She walked to Luxa and Commander Adea, holding Luxa’s backpack with her.
Jovenan: Can you make it to the landing area, Lorana? It’s some kilometres away and the terrain is quite uneven.
Lorana/Adea: Response
Any: Response
As she began the walk back to the runabout, she took a deep breath of the fresh air. She had spent months in space and the natural air smelled as amazing as ever as the wind tingled her skin. The sun was slowly creeping down and was colouring the cliffs bold orange. The relief aid mission and the shore leave had only been a brief visit to the system, and she didn’t know what the future would bring. She had joined the Starfleet to see strange new worlds, but the idea of boldly going from planet to planet and never seeing the same cliffs again made her sad. Such was the life of a Starfleet officer.
