(( Sickbay Complex, Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))

Bergmen: For the test, I reserved Argos, uh, Type-17 shuttle. With unrestricted atmospheric capability was more suitable than Type 11, if you don’t mind. But atmospheric means we need to wear these antics. Sorry, Lieutenant. Don’t forget your medical biosensors; Argos is more a hauler than a scientific miracle worker.

Syrex: Don’t worry, I also have a minor in Helm/Nav, so I know all of this. I’ll admit, this’ll be my first flight assessment thingy-ma-bob though.

Bergmen averted her gaze to allow the doctor some privacy while she changed. It soon became clear to her why he was avoiding looking at her and why he was doing sightseeing on the sickbay.

Syrex: You’d better not be thinking of making me wear that thing?

Ollie turned his gaze back to the doctor, his face completely blushing.

Bergman: Ma’am? Uh, yes? I’m sorry, doctor. It’s for your safety while the inertial compensator will be offline during the test.

The doctor winced, wagging her finger at him.

Syrex: No, no, no, no… I shall not be wearing that. I have… a medical condition!

Bergman: Ah, I didn’t… ::bite his lips:: I guess… a ship replicator? Yea, it will probably find something more… fitting to your… a medical condition.

The doctor smiled at him and moved to the replicator.

Syrex: Computer, one proper flight-suit, suited to the specifications of Alyndra Syrex. Oh, and make it pink please…

The request elicited a raised eyebrow from Lieutenant Bergmen, but Ollie left it without comment, watching as the computer interpreted the request. What emerged was a lighter and less padded version of what Bergmen came with, plus that pink. And elephants. If Bergmen would be religiously grounded, he might call it heresy.

Syrex: Ah, yes. Much better. Now please, let’s go to the shuttle, I’ll pop this on when we get there.

For a moment, when Doctor Syrex put that on, Bergmen was speechless, but eventually, he managed to recover quickly and get enough deficient air into his lungs to answer.

Bergman: I… yes, ma’am. Follow me.

(( Type-17 Argo Transport “Atlas”, Main Shuttlebay, Deck 11, USS Artemis-A ))

The cockpit lighted up in waves as they progressed to the pilot seats and console. Ollie immediately settled into the pilot's seat, fixed his suit to the shuttle system life support, and strapped himself in with the safety harnesses.

As the buckles clicked into place, the young lieutenant glanced back at his medical escort and offered her a smile, his eyes shining with enthusiasm- perhaps a touch too much enthusiasm.

Bergmen: Ready to have some fun, Doctor?

Syrex: Response

Bergmen nodded and turned back to the controls to start pre-flight preparations, leaving the doctor to her own thoughts and tasks.

Bergmen: =/\= Atlas 1-71 Heavy, comm check. Artemis Flight Control, Atlas 1-71 request startup. =/\=

AFC: =/\= Atlas 1-71, Artemis Control, read you five by five. Start-up approved. =/\=

Bergmen: =/\= Start-up approved, Atlas 1-71. =/\=

As Ollie finished his transmission, he started the procedure to ignite their impulse and warp engines. Shuttle engines run in almost immediately, even though they cranked for a few seconds longer to stabilize the internal temperatures within the impulse.

Bergmen: Bucked up and comfortably seated, ma’am?

Syrex: Response

Ollie nodded.

Bergmen: Aye, ma’am.

The lieutenant reached back to reopen the channel.

Bergmen: =/\= Artemis Control, Atlas 1-71 Heavy, Type-17 Heavy at stand zero five, information Bravo. Request clearing for a training flight in training ground Risa with the handle to controlled space Risa Orbital. Posible deviation for training to Risa atmosphere, airway RI608-DOBEN-VOZ exit BODAL. =/\=

AFC: =/\= Atlas 1-71 Heavy, Artemis Control, cleared for training ground Risa. Possible deviation noted into your flight plan on Risa Orbital permission only. Squawk 5244. =/\=

Bergmen: =/\= Cleared to training ground Risa, atmosphere deviation on Risa Orbital permission only. Squawk 5244, Atlas 1-71 Heavy. =/\=

As he repeated his readback, Bergmen multitasked by setting their flight plan and squawk code to the shuttle computer. Once he finished, he nodded to Syrex to let the doctor double-check.

Syrex: Response?

Bergmen: =/\= Artemis Control, Atlas 1-71 Heavy, request a direct taxi to the holding point, line up, and immediate go. =/\=

AFC: =/\= Atlas 1-71 Heavy, Artemis Control, taxi direct to holding point and line up. =/\=

Bergmen: =/\= Taxi direct to hold and line up, Atlas 1-71 Heavy. =/\=

Ollie visually checked the area around the shuttle and began to slowly increase the antigrav to get the shuttle moving. With the path cleared, it only took a few moments to move through the taxi and holding point to line up the shuttle for take-off.

AFC: =/\= Atlas 1-71 Heavy, immediate space is clean of traffic. Cleared for immediate takeoff. =/\=

Bergmen: =/\= Cleared for immediate takeoff, Atlas 1-71 Heavy. =/\=

Bergmen quickly turned to the doctor, a childish smile on his face.

Bergmen: Let’s go doctor!

He didn’t wait for the doctor to respond and pushed the throttle forward. For the first split second, nothing happened, but as the engines began to roar in response to the controls, the shuttle started to accelerate, and before the first second had passed, the shuttle was out of the dock, accelerating into open space.

Syrex: Response
