((The Sadar-Aqila Quarters - Compartment 83, Sector 03, Deck 6, USS Artemis-A))
She looked up from the table and noticed the various art pieces plastered all over the wall. It took her a moment but she quickly realized she was looking at Betazoid art. The vibrant colors and “empathetic” nature of the paintings were a favorite of hers. It reminded her of the academy when she’d go visit art installations with her Betazoid best friend.
Lyara: Love the Betazoid art. ::She motioned to the walls:: I’ve always been fond of Betazoid culture.
Kolya seemed excited as he quickly moved to infodump about a topic he had deep knowledge in.
((OOC: This convo is taking place while Gila greets Tarkin))
Aqila: :: excited :: Really!? :: catches a breath :: I've been most interested in Clorian Dessai! Do you know them? They use bold colours and shocking imagery to comment on the hierarchical state of Betazoid politics during the renaissance. I've asked Dona if we can visit Betazoid one day :: more shy :: But I'm not taking my clothes off.
Alroyo chuckled at Kolya’s comments about taking clothes off. While she herself was privy to all aspects of Betazoid culture she understood discomfort from others.
Lyara: That’s alright you don’t have to take your clothes off. ::Tactfully changing topics:: I do like Dessai, I had a friend who I went to one of their installations with. But recently, I’ve been reading about male artists and their rejection of the matriarchal society and art that reflects that.
Aqila: Response
Lyara: You should check out Irasslem Arai. He’s a bit more up and coming but his art speaks to many from the current generation that’s coming of age. Especially since he breaks gender norms and has been known to do traditionally feminine things.
Aqila: Response
Lyara: I’ll be sure to send you a few paintings your way, I’m sure you’ll love the colors.
Gila approached the pair to introduce one of the newest arrivals to the Artemis. There had been a lot of them lately, including Lyara herself.
Sadar: Ensign Tarkin, this is my nephew, Kolya Aqila. He’s residing with me while he studies. ::gestures to Lyara:: And this is Ensign Lyara. ::looks to the other others:: And this is Ensign Tarkin, our newest Engineer.
Aqila: :: a little more sure of himself :: The Wheel has blessed us with your presence, please enjoy our Aailudet.
Alroyo turned to Tarkin and gave a polite nod.
Lyara: Pleasure to meet you.
Tarkin: Response
Sadar: Did you have a safe trip from Starbase 118, Ensign Tarkin?
It had been awhile since Lyara herself had been to 118. It was her cadet cruise on said station where she met her now Captain, and watched her yell at a cadet that was able to sneak a boot knife into the holodeck.
Alroyo noticed Kolya shaking the present she had gifted and flinched slightly. She couldn’t remember if Bajoran brushes were as resilient as she remembered.
Tarkin: Response
Lyara: I hope you brought enough food to feed the new ensign. After my trip from 118 I was famished.
Sadar: I-I wasn’t anticipating- I mean ::clears throat:: On Mizar II, a, uhh, we don’t invite guests when we celebrate a new home, so I didn’t know what to expect.
Aqila: Dona do you not remember your Aailudet? At school, we got to meet our new group, especially our teacher and show respect to our better and more knowledgeable. The teacher read from the Kahlto, “Let the flow of the Wheel’s motion cleanse your heart-”
Sadar: “and lead you on a new journey towards greater understanding.” The Tenet of Entry. ::deep breath:: Right. I remember.
A small smirk cracked on Lyara’s face as she listened to them recite a prayer. Religion was something not found often in other coworkers, which had led to misunderstandings between her and her more atheist coworkers. There was never a problem, but one too many “you know the Prophets are just aliens” left a sour taste.
Sadar: ::to Kolya:: Thank you. ::to Lyara and Tarkin:: And thank you both for joining us. It’s still a short while until the designated time, but feel free to take food and refreshments as you please. ::to Lyara, specifically: We also have Hasperat?
Alroyo’s eyes widened with excitement at the mention of hasperat at the party.
Lyara: Hasperat? I could go for some hasperat.
Tarkin: Response
Without any delay she immediately moved to the table full of food and picked up a plate to serve herself. She gave a slight prayer to the Prophets that they’d bless her with an especially spicy dish.
As she was putting some hasperat and a few kava rolls on her plate she heard a chime at the door.
Sadar/Aqila: Response
Lyara: The more the merrier!
Tarkin: Response
Vitor was let in and he entered with a wide smile and carrying a small gift and a larger gift.
Silveira: Hey, welcome back. ::he grabbed the big present and made his way inside.:: OK clear some room, I need to set this down. Hello everyone.
He put down his two gifts he was carrying on the sofa and Lyara looked at the two with a slight twinge of embarrassment. She forgot to bring a gift for the doctor! If her family found out they’d never let her hear the end of it.
Silveira: It’s good to see you again Doc.
Sadar: Response
He turned to greet Kolya.
Silveira: And you must be our newest guest. Welcome to the Artemis. ::He winked at Sada:: I am your new crazy uncle Sil.
Aqila: Response
He turned to face Lyara and Tarkin to give them their greeting. Alroyo wondered if he had found the plush she had left him yet. It was her finest work yet and she’d be sorely disappointed if he didn’t appreciate the fine craftsmanship.
Silveira: Al, Tarrik. Good to see you both already here.
Lyara: If you can claim crazy uncle I think I’ll claim wine aunt.
Tarkin: Response
Silveira opened his arms and gestured to the wrapped gifts, adorned with their very own artemis themed wrapping paper.
Silveira: Sada and Kolya, I got you both a welcoming gift. I thought of bringing something to eat but I think these are right up your alley, especially yours Sada. Let’s unwrap them.
Sadar/Aqila: Response
With the first gift unwrapped it was revealed to be a very adorable caduceus symbol lamp.
Silveira: I thought this would suit you. I believe you recognize the symbol.
And for little Kolya there was an oval shaped object Lyara did not recognize. Had he given him an egg?
Silveira: And that Kolya is a football, it’s an exact replica from the one that Portugal, my home place, used when they won their first major international competition.
I will set us up a holoprogram for us to play with it. Its a good exercise and someone has to teach you some proper games.
Sadar/Aqila: Response
Silveira: Response
Sadar/Aqila/Tarkin: Response
Alroyo finally took a bite of the hasperat and held back from letting out a disappointed sigh. It was a little bland with a slight tingle at most. She’d have to covertly replicate some hot sauce to up the fire.
Lyara: So Dr. Sadar, how’s it having your nephew here? Doesn’t keep you too busy I hope.
She chuckled as she took another bite of the sorely under-flavored, at least to her Bajoran taste buds, hasperat.
Sadar: Response
Lyara: Well if you ever need some babysitting I'd be willing to help. ::Motioning to Sil:: And I’m sure crazy uncle would be a great influence.
Sadar/Silveira: Response
