(( Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))
Bothered
by some of CloQ’s departing words, Addison found herself standing at the entrance
to the Chief Medical Officer’s office. She’d found the Betazoid distracted,
likely lost in thought. She rapped her knuckles lightly on the door frame next
to the entryway.
MacKenzie: ::with a bit of jest:: Busy day?
He offered her a smile and gestured for
her to come in.
Adea: You have no idea… well, you do. But I was just taking five.
She chuckled, pointing.
MacKenzie: I’ll be sure to take it out of your pay at the end of the
week. ::beat, pointing at the chair on the opposite side of his desk:: Mind if
I have a seat?
Adea: Of course. ::he raised an eyebrow with concern:: Anything I
need to worry about? Should I get out my tricorder?
Addison waved her hand dismissively back and forth in front of her face,
declining his offer. She crossed her right leg over her left and pressed her
back into the rear of the chair, then allowed herself to slouch slightly.
MacKenzie: No, I’m fine, thanks. …how are you doing?
Adea: I’m fine, Captain. Maybe a little tired, but otherwise
fine. You know, the usual
She rolled her eyes slightly and shook her head back and forth. He offered a frown
in response.
MacKenzie: How are you doing?
Genkos leaned
back in his chair and interlaced his hands behind the back of his head.
Adea: Okay, what’s up? I’m not saying that
you’re not a bundle of warmth, but what’s with this newfound concern for my
well being? ::he leaned forward suddenly as a thought struck:: Oh gods, my
doppelganger? He hasn’t struck again has he?
Addison visibly cringed. For a moment, she’d nearly forgotten that Shint-Genkos was running around the universe, likely terrorizing anything or anyone he could get his hands on. As far as she was aware even through unofficial channels, the anti-Genkos hadn’t been apprehended yet.
MacKenzie: No. I think he’s still running around the galaxy, but I haven’t heard anything about any issues he’s caused.
Adea: That’s good… no news is good news, that’s what you humans say, no? ::he leaned back again, and stared at her for a moment with his deep ebony eyes:: So fess up, what’s got you so concerned with me?
She sat a little taller in her chair, a slight look of discomfort on her face as she wrestled with how honest she should be. She’d served with Genkos as long as if not longer than anyone else in the fleet, and held him in high regard – both as a person and as a physician. But she also had a deep respect for science, as did he, and the idea of coming to him with a flippant warning that an omnipotent being had dropped on a whim seemed a bit disingenuous.
MacKenzie: Well, before they left, CloQ issued a bit of a warning. (beat) I mean, I guess it was a warning. I don’t know what to make of it.
Adea: Response
MacKenzie: Something along the lines of keeping an eye on the Betazoid and that not everything is what it seems…
Adea: Response
Addison’s eyes narrowed slightly as she leaned forward in her seat.
MacKenzie: ::half-mockingly:: Are you Shint-Genkos?
Adea: Response
She smirked, sitting back in her chair.
MacKenzie: I haven’t been able to shake the feeling since they left. When’s the last time you had an exam?
If she wanted the answer to that question, along with what the results were, she could have just looked it up, but that particular intrusion as someone who wasn’t his physician felt like an invasion of privacy that she couldn’t stomach.
Adea: Response
Tag, and TBC!
