((Ruined docks, Callis I))
The water was lowering and Vitor tipped his head and gestured for the others to step back.
The Beasts didn’t like water, so that wasn’t exactly a good thing.
Silveira: Let’s get closer to the Doc… It feels like someone pulled the plug…
Jaran: Oh, of course. Just as I had this fishing thing worked out.
Breys: I don't think the fish are going to be happy about this change either.
Vitor smiled, as he kept his eyes on the shrinking shore line.
Jaran: Hey, maybe this will make it easier for us to find some food? Breys, check out all that exposed plant life.
Breys: I hope that is the only effect of this. That kelp might be good food for a while though. You aren't wrong.
Vitor kept looking into the water line as it began to reveal the top of a solid construction under it. Not exactly surprising, since they were already aware of an ancient civilization by the several ruins they had found.
Jaran: What is that? Some sort of building? Metal and stone. Doesn't look natural at all.
Breys: It definitely looks like a building. It looks quite old for how well it has held together as well.
Vitor stood still as the water was almost all gone. He looked at the door, and then around the cave. One thing Breys and Doc Jaran were missing was that, without water, the Things could easily enter now.
Jaran: Ok, this is fascinating, and I'm sure you both want to go off and explore the surprise building in the alien lake on the death planet. But your injured doctor is very hungry, and is also fairly certain you're both hungry too. Can I at least convince you to let us cook and eat first? And maybe give time for others to get back?
Breys: I don't want to wander into the weird lake building for at least as long as the others are gone.
Vitor stood still, alert to any movement.
Silveira: We stay put…
Vitor had just finished his sentence when Imril ran back, with Munro following.
Imril: ::Pointing at the water:: No time for dinner or we’ll be dinner!
From where they had returned Vitor heard something.
Munro: I don't think we have long! Trust us, that might have the answers!
Breys: Are those things close?
Jaran: Oh good. More running. I'll get my running shoes on.
Vitor stood firm as he recognized the noise that were following Imril and Munro
Silviera: Get ready Doc… we are leaving
Imril and Munro rushed past them, straight for the door. Imril went straight in with a purpose as Munro called them.
Munro: Get inside the box!
She rushed to aid Doc Jaran as well
Munro: Silveira, Breys! Help me!!
Vitor rushed to the Doc’s side and unceremoniously carried Doc Jaran with Munro to the box.
Breys: Let's get them inside fast, we can make sure the leg wasn't disturbed in a moment.
Vitor lowered the good Doctor carefully down.
Silveira: Sorry Doc, it looks like I am making a habit of injuring you.
Imril: I think we have to lock the bunker door from the inside to reflood the chamber. And do it in a hurry, before the dark things can close the gap and reach the campground.
Breys: I support whatever plan puts me further away from that.
Imril: responses
Vitor took a side step but there wasn’t much he could do or offer, so he tried to stay away from Imril and Munro. Apparently they had managed to find out how all this worked.
As Munro slammed the door shut his, and the other’s combadges chirped. He looked inquisitively to Munro.
Munro: Don't get too excited. It only works inside this box. It's what ancient humans called a Faraday Cage. It shields us from the effects of the Maelstrom. But only when we're inside a sealed box. Like this one. Imril and I found what looks like a map with more crystals on it.
She indicated the map that she'd tossed on the floor when they first got here.
Breys: It sounds like you already found more of these rooms, Sir.
Jaran: Ok, so it wasn't just me. That's all I needed to know. Telepathy, then.
Silveira: Or something like that…
Vitor didn’t know if he was hearing or feeling something. He narrowed his eyes and looked suspiciously around.
Imril: responses
Munro: Wait! :: hushed them all :: Can you hear that?
Breys: Does that mean there are more survivors?
Vitor nodded but kept quiet.
Imril: responses
Then Munro dashed across the room, hopping onto one of the open consoles.
Munro: Jovenan! Is that you?!
Vitor’s eyes widened when Munro mentioned Nan.
Jovenan: =/\= Yes! Yes, Commander, I am! It’s so good to see you! Can you hear me? =/\=
Munro: :: elated :: We can hear you?! I think we're in some kind of …
Vitor smiled. Vitor simply smiled. And kept smiling. He was without reaction, closed in a blocked cage, but the most wonderful sound in the Universe made him smile.
Jovenan: =/\= We can see you. The room you’re in is quite similar to the one we have here. ::pause, looks to the console:: We also have several symbols on the screen. We’ve figured the triangles reference to your health status, but there are also some prominent semicircles. No idea what they mean. =/\=
Vitor looked up, still smiling, and tried to find something that could be the source of their transmission.
Munro: I think I know what they mean… if I'm right this is some kind of crude transportation network.
Jovenan: =/\= You might be right, Commander. But we can’t take the risk using it on people, the probability of incomplete or corrupted transportation is too great. We could try it out with objects, first… is everything alright in there? =/\=
Munro turned to the others.
Munro: There's no guarantee this will work. We get into one of those we might not step back out again :: turned back to the communication console :: Commander, we're ready. Do what you need to do.
Vitor nodded and stepped closer. It was just another transporter. And Nan was on the other side. He smiled at the others. Soon…
Vitor was more than used to being beamed out and in. Son of space traders he was beaming into places since he was a child. Obviously he knew of people that didn’t like the experience and coming to think of it, they were dematerialized, compressed and rematerialized back.
This wasn’t going to be that different… Until it was…
He couldn’t point out how, if he was feeling pain or pressure, if his body was stretching, squeezing, or blowing up in pieces. He tried to close his eyes only to hear an ominous warning.
Callisian: Beware the network … it transforms…
His worst experience was when he awakened from his coma, and felt trapped in his own body. A nightmare that still haunted him, thanks to Clo’Q.
And this felt almost as bad. Even worse than that… If it wasn’t for one thing…
Vitor didn’t know how long it took, he stumbled forward, blurry sight, neglecting Doc Jaran, Imril, Munro and Breys. He only had eyes for the shape in front of him. He smiled and everything he been trough was worth it.
oO Nan… Oo
