[sb118-artemis] Ensign Tho'Bi - Computer Say What?

((Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))

It was difficult to say when it had first started.  His mother first noticed while she was stationed with him on Deep Space 3.   The other children would play together until tired; and once tired, would happily nap or enjoy quiet time together; but not her six-year-old Andorian boy, after a time with his peers, he would seek out the company of machines.  His mother equated this compulsion as being akin to charging his batteries.

So it was then, and so has it remained.  The young ensign’s batteries were running flat. 

MacKenzie: Very good. Do you have any questions for me before I leave you to it?

Tho’Bi: Where do I… ermm. Where’s my …rack?  Bunk  …Place. Sleep… Thing. :: points at Padd :: Is it on… :: nods more to himself :: It’s on the Padd, right?  Captain,  Sir.

He was beginning to wish the Captain had just thrown him in the brig for shoving the Andorian.  Apparently, so was the Captain.  Her words delivered in a telling deliberate count.

MacKenzie: I’m sure everything you need will have been provided in the packet you have there.

Tho’Bi: :: nodding too much :: Yes, Captain. 

MacKenzie: If not, the computer or one of our ops officers should be able to provide you with the info you need.

Tho’Bi: Yes :: points at the computer panel on nearest wall :: the computer…

The ensign’s use the word ‘computer’ inadvertently activated the computer panel.  It lit up and promptly interrupted him.

Computer:  Please state the nature of the inquiry.

The ensign threw a panicked look in the direction of the computer panel; then back at the Captain, more panicked.

Tho’Bi:  :: addressing the computer panel :: Oh no, I’m… I’m fine, thank you.  :: looks at the Captain :: It activated by accident.

Apparently, the Captain thought it wise to ignore her newly assigned engineering ensign activating a computer panel by accident.  She smiled once again and nodded slightly.

MacKenzie: My office is always open if you need anything. Welcome aboard, Ensign.

Tho’Bi: Yes, Captain.  Thank you, Captain.

 

And with that, the Captain turned and made her way out and/or escaped.  The ensign slumped backwards against the biobed; at least that was he intention, unfortunately, through all the turning and talking to computer panels, he had lost his bearings.  Thud!  The ensign fell backwards and landed, sprawled out across the sickbay deck.
