((Elysium Main Level - Deck 6 - USS Artemis-A))
Entering Elysium, Natasha noted it was full of officers in and out of uniform. The bar nestled in the center of the room, with a brightly lit green backdrop with an assortment of colorful bottles of various shapes lining several shelves. Above the bar was the mezzanine.
A group of officers left a table by the window and Ava immediately motioned Natasha to follow her. As they made their way through the crowd, Natasha moved around people as they passed like she was navigating a stream.
Munro: :At least we have a view.
Ava nodded towards the view of DS224. Natasha took a long look. She hoped she would never get tired of seeing sights like this.
Cole: It’s one of those places that feel too big until you’re inside it, hundreds of decks for thousands of personnel and civilians. I like it, it’s like a city hung in space.
As they sat, a Tellarite with blonde tinted hair approached their table and took their orders.
Munro: So :: slight pause :: Tell me a little about yourself?
Cole: I’m the daughter of a Biologist and a Commander, descendant of an NX-class officer. I’m a fan of Old Earth Mystery Holo-novels, hand to hand martial arts, currently I’m working on restoring a surprisingly well preserved NX era communicator.
Natasha was hoping she didn’t come off as over sharing.
Munro: Did you always want to join Starfleet?
Cole: I didn’t always plan on it. At first, I wanted to make my own way, maybe as a civilian investigator. But no matter how far I drifted, Starfleet kept pulling me back. Eventually, I stopped fighting it and stepped into the uniform, on my own terms.
Munro: On your own terms, huh? :: Ava let out a small laugh :: And what about the rest of the family? Are they also in Starfleet :: beat :: On their own terms?
Cole: I have a sibling, Juno, in secondary school. Along with some half siblings and other extended family, and my ‘Aunt’ Rea.
Munro: You have an aunt as well?
Cole: She’s a family friend that has become family. She’s a bit of a mystery. We joke that she might be a temporal agent, a Q observer, or a former Section 31 operative.
The Commander let out a boisterous laugh.
Munro: I aim to one day have such a mystique of my own :: takes a sip of her drink :: My aunt teaches at the academy in SecTac. You might have had classes with her, Professor Munro? Otherwise known as ‘The Battleaxe’.
Natasha’s eye’s widened just a little, she knew her last name sounded familiar. She wondered if she could be frank about her, or not.
Cole: She was a ::beat:: hard professor. Honestly though I respect that she is hard on her student’s. I think it pushed us to be the best version of ourselves.
As another waiter approached, balancing several plates. Suzie popped out from under the table and yelped at the server. Natasha instinctively reached out to help as the waiter began trying to set the plates down.
Munro: Finally, I'm starved :: to Suzie :: Calm.
Suzie sat immediately, Natasha was impressed with how well trained the dog was.
Cole: I had barely eaten anything this morning, so I can relate.
Munro: If only ensigns were so easy to train :: winks mischievously ::
Cole: ::feigning innocence:: I’m sure we’re a delight. Right after the caffeine kicks in and the panic wears off.
She cracked a smile as she picked up her cheeseburger, eyeing her fries she considered sneaking one to Suzie, but decided against it. She didn’t want to end up on Munro’s bad side.
Munro: Response
Cole: What was your first mission like as a junior officer?
Munro: Response
Suzie sat there staring at Natasha as if trying to will her into sharing a fry with her. Gently wagging her tail, just watching her slowly eat, doing a slight head tilt as if saying ’Please?’
Cole: ::looking at Suzie:: You have to ask your Mom, she’s the boss here.
Munro: Response
