(( Elysium - Deck 6, USS Artemis-A ))
((( OOC: All opinions expressed are, obviously, the character's only. I love all you workaholic dumbos <3 )))
Tamio was always happy to see junior officers mingling and enjoying festivities. It happened all too rarely on the USS Artemis-A, and somehow - even when they attended a party - these workaholics managed to make it seem like it was the worst place they could possibly think to be. They needed to remind themself to confer with Sickbay on whether an antidote could be concocted that would cure this crew of being stick-in-the-muds...
As a matter of fact, Tamio could think of several flag officers who could do with a healthy dose of just such a medication.
Not today though! Today, they would drink, have fun and make sure to have enough fun at Olliver's expense to last a lifetime, now that the chattiest cat in the department was switching the Gold for the Teal.
K'Wara: ::to Imril:: Did you hear about his latest experiment yet? It's a doozy! ::takes a swig::
Imril: You mean the aeroshuttle that he’s been building with Garvin? Yeah, I’m aware.
Tamio did have the decency to feel a little bad - it hadn't occurred to them that Olliver might not have told their partner about the department switch - but Olliver quickly rescued them from that horrid emotion by making it veyr plain that it was, in fact, not intended to be a secret.
Bergmen: I believe the commander thinks the other one. (beat) I’m leaving Operations for Team Bancroft, in a sort of way.
Imril: You’re… Doing what, now?
Bergmen: Once we receive our new orders, I will move under Commander Lux. Counseling.
Olliver had certainly dodged a bullet with Roy's promotion to CMO happening just ahead of his department switch. The Gideon officer was a good kid, but sometimes, he seriously needed someone to tell him to stop having his head in the clouds and start living a little.
Kyle Morgan - for all his many assets - would not have done that.
Imril: Well, I suppose that explains some of the books I’ve seen in your quarters.
K'Wara: A lot of studying in your future, I hear. ::smiles:: But dare I say, I think you might be looking forward to the grind, eh?
Bergmen: Guilty as charged… (beat) … guilty as charged. Some roads lead to an end, and some ends are a new beginning.
K’Wara: ::faux fear:: Oh no, it's started!
Tamio took another swig of their whiskey, firmly of the mindset that they needed to be more than just a little buzzed to be able to internalize the fortune cookie wisdom-version of Olliver.
Imril: As lateral career moves go, that’s… different. Not bad. Just different.
K’Wara: A bit of versatility never hurt!
Even if that versatility meant losing a capable officer to the teal side.
Imril: Good luck with it. I’m sure K’Wara’s going to have their work cut out for them replacing you.
Bergmen: As one man once said with deep wisdom - You never know what you have until you lose it… ::glance to Commander:: You have already like five candidates, are you?
K’Wara: ::shrugs theatrically:: The Academy seems to be spitting them out on an assembly line. What are we to do?
Which was technically true, but it didn't mean that just anyone got posted to the Flagship of the Borderlands. Tamio half suspected Captain MacKenzie to be rejecting any placements of Cadets who dared have fun during their four years of studying, given her track record for Ensigns who were workaholics and/or social wrecks.
Olliver raised a glass with a chuckle, and Tamio clinked their glass to his with a smile.
Bergmen: No one is irreplaceable in the big cogs of things. To others? Always. But never to the system.
Imril: Response
Tamio turned back to the bar to order another drink, as Olliver seemed to experience a moment of self-doubt.
Bergmen: So, Commander, tell me. What will be your first thought when you see this face in teal? And be honest.
K’Wara: The same thing every self-deluding Officer thinks when seeing a Counselor approaching: ::mock 'you got me'-pose:: Play busy!
You didn't make it a decade in Starfleet without developing some kind of ruse to get out of medical visits, and thus far - thankfully - the Artemis Sickbay had been downright respectful of their time. Tamio would never admit it out loud, but they kind of missed the thrill of the chase with Lieutenant Fiér back on the Princeton. He was probably single-handedly resposible for Tamio relearning how to stealth without their tail.
Imril: Response
K'Wara: Imril's right. ::nods:: You'll do fine. Tenacity and persistence are part of your charm.
Not that Tamio didn't have their doubts. This was the same Olliver who not a week ago was having an existential crisis in the Ops Center, and as one of patients of the Artemis' counseling department, that didn't give them a great amount of confidence that he'd adjust to counseling tasks with ease.
He would adjust, no doubt. But it would take time.
Imril/Bergmen: Response
K'Wara: One thing's for certain: I am looking forward to not having Morta as a permanent view from my windows anymore!
