((La’kso Canyon, Meranuge IV))
Lorana: The nearest population centre is over 100 miles away. As far as I'm aware there is no farmland nearby?
Savel: You are correct, Luxa.
Jovenan: Are they Da’al? I can’t see anything.
Kader: Response
Savel: Anyone unarmed, please stand behind me.
Jovenan slowly moved behind Savel’s cover. Luxa remained slightly elevated, yet moved behind Savel.
Luxa had brought along a phaser, concealed within a pocket on her pack. She kept it hidden but repositioned the pack so that she would be able to draw it if required. It was a just in case, she'd been sprung upon unexpectedly too many times in the past.
Savel: This is Ensign Savel, of the Starfleet vessel Artemis. Your being here is no longer a secret. Present yourself to us now, or your secrecy will be interpreted as a threat.
Any: responses
Savel: Luxa, let me know if you detect any additional signs of movement.
Lorana: They're close enough to hear you. I believe it's two Da'al males. They're whispering something. I can't make it out.
Savel: Flint, Jovenan, should danger present itself, do not take any unnecessary risks. A retreat to the shuttle would be our best strategy.
Jovenan: A-aye.
Kader: Response
Luxa heard heavier footfall than before and then a Da'al man emerged from behind a large rock. He had raised his hands in a non-threatening display.
Kireeh: Put down your weapon, sir, there’s no need for it.
Savel/Kader: Response
Lorana remained quiet, as another Da'al joined him. That would be the two whispering voices. They approached them, gracefully manouvering the groves of the rockface, clearly familiar with the terrain. They both wore violet tunics and black trousers. Not the kind of clothing you'd wear for a trek in these canyons.
Kireeh: I am Senior Warden Valhe, of the Planetary Park Service, Northeast Regional Ranger Division. This is my patrol partner, Junior Warden Sepite. May I ask why you threaten us with weapons?
Savel/Kader: Responses
Lorana was immediately suspicious of the men. Rangers would normally have an insignia or some way to identify themselves as such. She cast a sideway glance to Savel, indicating that she didn't trust them. She then looked down to her paw, indicating the pocket on her backpack. Which she then loosened, placing her paw around her specially adapted phaser handle. It allowed for the unique contours of her paw to slide around the grip easily.
Lorana: :: sounding cheerful :: We were just enjoying the beautiful canyons. As my friend said, we're from the USS Artemis, a Starfleet vessel in orbit. Our crew is offering aid to your people. We had some recreational time and decided to see your beautiful planet. We have not been disappointed.
Jovenan: W-we’re sorry about having the phaser out.
Kireeh: I see. You don’t look like you’re from around here. ::looks at them back and forth:: Enjoying the natural beauty of the Canyon, eh?
Savel/Kader: Response
Lorana: Yes, we're starfleet officers. We enjoy peacefully exploring new territories, in space and on the ground. It's an important part of what we do.
oO I've only been doing it for a matter of days Oo
Jovenan: And I’m a planetary scientist. I wanted to see the cliffs and the fluorescent minerals. The canyon is quite unique in this area of space.
Lorana: We're sorry to have disturbed you on your patrol. Is there anything we can help you with?
Savel/Kader: Response
Kireeh: :: takes a step closer to them :: That's appreciated.
Rennol: :: nervous outburst:: You can leave! If you want to help us.
Savel/Kader/Jovenan: Response
Kireeh: :: exasperated :: What my colleague means to say is that these canyons can be extremely dangerous for those who wander too far. :: Veiled threat :: One slip is all it takes and you're a pile of bones on the canyon floor, being picked at by a finderian foxcator or scaled monarch. You might have seen one fly past earlier? Fierce creatures. They feed off the unfortunate souls, some times it can take days for them to die.
Savel/Kader/Jovenan: Responses
Lorana: Yes, we're trained for this. For any eventuality.
Lorana picked up the hidden threat in his voice. She wondered what it was that they were trying to hide within the canyon. Something hidden and connected to the meteor strike perhaps. She refused to think it was a coincidence. All the more reason why they should remain.
Kireeh: It seems there is no changing the minds of Starfleet is there? Can't help but put themselves in the middle of matters that don't concern them.
Rennol pulls a laser pistol that was hidden inside his tunic and points it at the group of ensigns. Kireeh smiles confidently at the group, undeterred.
Savel/Kader/Jovenan: Response
Lorana removes her phaser from its concealed position.
oO yet again, I should have joined Starfleet security Oo
Kireeh: Before you decide to use that weapon please note that I have armed five incendiary devices on the rockface above your heads.
He lifts his hand to reveal the triggering device, which was concealed against his palm.
Lorana looks above, she's unable to see the devices although she had no point of reference to scan for. Logic would dictate that they'd be concealed and not easy to spot. They could have suspected that we'd need to stop to climb the larger rock and at that point they'd ambush.
Savel/Kader/Jovenan: Response
Kireeh: It is a crude method yet effective. You fire that weapon and you will all die. We don't tolerate Starfleet spies. Rennol collect their weapons.
Rennol moved quickly towards Savel.
Savel/Kader/Jovenan: Response
