((Science lab 2, Deck 9- USS Artemis))

After discovering her unfortunate issue with some Cheezy-poof dust cross contamination, Sam was still grateful to have the rocks. Thankfully those could be salvaged, unlike the soil sample.

She had caught sight of the chief of science and decided to ask if she was interested in checking out her findings.

Richards: Commander! ::Waving at Jovenan:: Wanna see some cool rocks?

If Sam had asked anyone other than a fellow scientist that question, they would have probably looked at her like she was insane.

Jovenan: I wouldn’t say no to cool rocks. What do you have there?

She gave the Chief of Science a warm smile and gestured to the rocks on the table. Jovenan quietly inspected the specimens without even touching them. A typical analysis that Sam respected.

Richards: I have these samples from Galaris VI. Interested in taking a look at them with me? I was just about to cut one of these bad boys in half. After they have been cleaned and sanitized…

Jovenan: Sanitised? Why?

Richards: Well… Thanks to some cross contamination the soil sample is unusable. But the rocks are safe.

She sheepishly looked towards the fellow planetary scientist and showed her the results on the PADD.

Richards: I may have put these samples in my pocket since I didn’t have a field kit with me. The same pocket I used to carry my cheezy poofs in that same morning…

Jovenan: Oh, that’s unfortunate. But at least you got something that’s much better than what I’ve got: nothing. ::looks at rocks, nods:: Cleaning and sanitising them should restore them to studiable condition.

Sam snapped her fingers and nodded her head eagerly.

Richards: That’s the plan!

She waddled her way over to a shelf and found a small sani-clean box. Upon returning, she gently placed the specimens inside and latched the lid. Thankfully the process wouldn’t take long.

Jovenan: Just out of curiosity… What exactly are “cheezy poofs”?

It shouldn’t have surprised Sam that the Edo woman had never heard of the small orange snacks, but after them being a staple for basically all of Sam's pregnancy, it felt odd for a moment to think that someone hadn’t heard of them before.

Richards: They are these little neon orange crunchy morsels, covered in a thick cheese flavored dust. It’s honestly shocking I don’t have any with me right now for you to try. ::Beat:: We will have to rectify that soon.

Even with their newer more professional relationship, Sam did enjoy spending time with Jovenan and hoped their friendship would continue to grow outside of their Borg cube experience and science work.

The science took over and the Chief spoke up as soon as the sanitization was completed.

Jovenan: So, what’s your hypothesis? What do you expect to find about these rocks or the geomorphology of the location?

Richards: Based on where I picked these bad boys up from, I have a hunch there used to be a river, or some type of water  that used to flow through there. I am hoping these might give some insight on what– if anything used to be there. One of the rocks was out on the topsoil, the other one I dug down a bit for. ::Gesturing vaguely:: The landscapes and features of the planet really struck my fancy. I needed to know more.

The rocks were now free of any snack remnants, and ready for one of them to be cut in half. Sam grabbed her equipment and chose an ultrasonic vibratome. She set it on the plate and locked it into place before closing the clear safety cover. As she went to grab the attached user display she remembered the sign on the wall of the lab. “Lab safety is fun!” Once her protective eye equipment was on she handed a second pair of safety glasses to Jovenan and then started up the device.

Jovenan: Response

Richards: This is my favorite part. ::Balling up her hands and shaking them quickly:: I can’t wait to see what’s inside!

Jovenan: Response

A small chime indicated that the split was complete. Sam lifted the clear covering and gently pulled out the rock as a whole.

Once it was set down, the two parts fell away from each other. Sam screwed up her face in curiosity and confusion.

Richards: ::Looking between Jovenan and the split rock:: What is that?

Jovenan: Response
