(( Elysium - Main Level, Deck 6 ))
When Nadevia once made the decision to take charge of her own future, to indulge in her passions and walk onto a new path for her progeny, she had not exactly intended to leave behind all connections to that past. Indeed, the engineering knowledge that still haunted her memories would remain with her forever, and she still remembered many of her former friends quite fondly indeed. And yet, certain among them held the regrettable connotation of her failing to follow through on her promises to Starfleet, and worse, the Yaros family. Her purposeful lack of communication back home was evidence of how deeply indeed that knowledge, that failure, rang out within her, and yet, Nadevia was, by heart, a gregarious individual, always finding true joy and satisfaction in social contexts.
And the reunion with an old friend was a joyous occasion, in truth.
Virtavi-Yaros: Alroyo!? Wha- ::struggles for words:: How?
Nadevia readily reached out to embrace the now red-headed - a color that complemented her complexion most aptly - and red-shirted Bajoran, and despite a brief moment of incapacitation (perhaps from surprise at this most unanticipated rendezvous?), Alroyo returned her gesture of affection.
Lyara: Well, the Artemis needed Operations and a Helm, and I’m trained in both. ::She shrugged and played a mock cool:: And I just so happen to be the best pilot in the Beta Quadrant.
A statement that could very well be an exaggeration of the gravest degree, and yet, looking upon her confident expression, Nadevia had no doubt that Alroyo would be able to prove any doubters wrong.
Virtavi-Yaros: So I see! My sincerest congratulations. The Artemis is certainly blessed with good fortune to have you.
Arroyo giggled, a slight blushing indicating that while her boast was spoken with confidence in herself, she maintained a humble disposition, as was suitable for a woman of her position. She was, if her pip was to be believed, still an Ensign, after all.
Lyara: Aw shucks Nadevia, we should be honored to have someone as capable as you here. ::She looked to her curiously:: On the topic of you, we should catch up! Where have you been?
Virtavi-Yaros: ::She flashed a brilliant smile:: Oh, I should love that! So much time has passed, I am certain that you have endless stories to tell. I must confess, I similarly have something I should like to discuss with you; a rather personal matter intrinsically linked to my presence aboard this Ship. However, for the moment- ::she looked to the bar:: Pardon me, Bartender? A glass of white sangria, please. ::looked to Alroyo with expectancy::
Alroyo seemed stumped for a moment, not immediately making a decision as to her beverage for the evening, but Nadevia embraced her more patient humor as she made her plans. Her pitch would need to be impeccable in order to ensnare someone as uniquely inviting for Nadevia’s first success aboard the USS Artemis-A.
Lyara: Oh! Uh… ::She thought for a moment:: I’ll do a glass of springwine for the special occasion.
She turned back to her friend as the bartender went to get their drinks.
Lyara: So, where you been? Surely you must’ve missed lil’ old me.
Virtavi-Yaros: Most grievously. Your good nature and always pleasant conversational skills have been sorely missed, dearest friend. Alas, I came upon teh realization that I was in need of a new chart with which to guide my path in life. The world of Engineering, while intellectually gratifying, is a family endeavor, one where precious little provides those most welcoming sensations of novelty or excitement. No. My grander purpose aboard the Artemis is as an advocate of the crew’s mental well-being, personal sense of fulfillment and experience of joy.
Her smile assumed a reticent quality, its intentions obscured by a deliberate veil of discrete coyness, as she accepted the glass of sangria that the bartender had just placed upon the bar behind Alroyo.
Lyara: Sounds interesting, glad to hear you’ve found something to do after you left the academy. I finished up my studies at the academy, ended up minoring in helm and majoring in ops, and joined a flight team. ::She motioned to her uniform:: Now I’m a pilot and operations. And to be honest, the red is starting to look mighty fine on me, the PADDs however, could use a little more personality.
Virtavi-Yaros: A task that I am most confident you shall execute with unparalleled grace! If I may speak candidly, I must say that the Artemis would greatly benefit not only from your creativity, but also from your extraordinary gift for joy and conviviality! It is for those very talents that I first realized that you must be the one to whom I entrust this personal favor.
Alroyo nodded, clearly hanging on to her every word with the faithful belief of one who, by her basest nature, understood Nadevia’s plight.
Lyara: ::She fidgeted with her hands:: This matter of yours… is it, personal personal?
Virtavi-Yaros: Oh yes, profoundly personal, my friend! ::produces a PADD:: I hope you are aware of the service known as ‘Starflirt’? It is under this auspice that I reside aboard this proud vessel, a humble representative and spokesperson for this organization. What began as a youthful, perhaps even juvenile, jest aboard a single Starship has since unveiled a far graver concern with the attitude towards happiness and connection within the Starfleet itself. Too many neglect nurturing their connections to their fellow crew, fixated instead on reducing the splendid romance of space travel to mere digits on a computer screen or specimens for study under the sterile lens of a microscope! ::invigorated expression:: To remedy this! That is the mission I have undertaken! To remind all that life is not solely about ambition, but equally so about embracing joy in all its forms.
Lyara: Response
Virtavi-Yaros: ::grabs Alroyo’s hands:: But, my dearest friend, you are the epitome of suitability for this task! Your charming smile, your warmth, your gracious and inviting demeanor and your astute perception of an individual’s character render you utterly unmatched in attractability! You possess an innate understanding of the people, not just the Ship, and I refuse to believe that your noble desire to help others and forge meaningful connections has not waned with the passage of time, nor the accumulation of experience?
Lyara: Response
Virtavi-Yaros: Oh! Thank you thank you thank you! ::hugs:: Your assistance in this matter shall bring you nothing but joy, I assure you! Once I have made the appropriate preparations, I shall impose myself upon your good graces once more, so that we might formalize our shared intentions.
So blinded by joy with Alroyo’s acceptance of her proposal, Nadevia remained fully oblivious of the rampant confusion of the situation, never realizing that she had not - in actuality - specified how Lyara Alroyo’s creation of a Starflirt profile would assist her endeavor at all. Nor that this was, in fact, the momentous favor that she was asking of the Bajoran woman.
