((Bridge, Deck 1 - USS Artemis))

The situation on the Artemis was still far from anything Talos would consider normal, but as the days passed and the repair efforts continued there brief moments where things almost felt like they used to.

Right now happened to be one of those moments, as he and the Captain were manning the bridge, as some recently back online systems were being put through their paces.

Footsteps behind him alerted him to a new arrival a moment before a voice called out to them.

Salkath: Captain, Commander. The damage reports you requested.

Commander Salkath stood before them with near comical amount of PADDs cradled in his arms. He supposed that tracked with all of the damage the ship had sustained.

MacKenzie: ::pointing at Salkath, but talking to Talos:: Don’t just sit there, give him a hand.

He realized that he’d just been staring at the Vulcan Engineer as he struggled with the data storage devices and quickly rose to take some of the load at MacKenzie’s urging.

Dakora: Right, sorry. ::He shook his head.:: I just don’t think I’ve ever seen so many damage reports…

Salkath: ::juggling the PADDs:: The reports are extensive. Perhaps we could adjourn to your ready room? ::quick correction:: Or the conference room, I mean?

Talos winced as he took some of the PADDs from the Vulcan Engineer. He'd already explained his reasoning for the hull breach in MacKenzie's ready room in great detail and she hadn't sacked him yet, so that seemed promising. But it was still a rather sore subject.

MacKenzie: Sure. ::gesturing:: Hopefully that room is still intact…

She eyed their first officer.

Dakora: Right. ::He nodded:: It is. At least, it was the last time I saw it.

Salkath gestured for them to lead the way as best he could around the armful of PADDs and Talos and Addison obliged.

They stepped through the doors and the Captain took her place at the head of the table while he and Salkath laid the all of the PADDs out on the long table.

Even without the aid of his empathy, Talos could tell Addison was seething. He decided to get down to business before she could dwell on it.

Dakora: Take it from the top Mister Salkath, where do we stand?

Salkath: Yes, sir. ::flicking through the reports::  Ahem. The primary comms array junction still needs a complete rebuild. As does the secondary sensor control room in the pod. The port ventral phaser array is still inoperable, and there are various small hull breaches along the array on deck 17. The main shuttlebay needs extensive maintenance after explosive decompression and a crashed shuttle across the deck plating. Somehow, the upper computer core sustained blast damage. ::this one was particularly irksome to Salkath, and it likely showed on his face::  We are fortunate that critical systems were not irreparably disrupted by that. Numerous consoles, panels, and hatches throughout the ship. Shipwide EPS issues. Oh. And one more... a hull breach on deck one...

Talos deftly avoided MacKenzie's gaze as she replied.

MacKenzie: You don’t say?

The fact that more than one of the areas needing repairs were a direct result of his escapades didn't seem like something he wanted to mention at the moment.

He cleared his throat.

Dakora: Ahem… I imagine we aren't the only ship needing parts right now. How badly is that going to complicate our efforts?

Salkath: As is to be expected, we are far down the list for access to space dock facilities throughout the Sol sector. All considering the state of the fleet, we were fortunate. Whatever repairs we can effect ourselves, we will have to do. It will take time.

MacKenzie: I’m wondering how long you think it might take if we try to sort out the bulk of the repairs ourselves? We fared far better than most, thankfully.

Salkath: ::an uncharacteristic shrug:: We cannot hazard a guess. Proportionate to the crew, the engineering department is suffering from widespread physical and emotional trauma, not to mention sheer exhaustion. Those of us who remain on active duty are stretched thin.

Talos nodded, a grim expression playing across his face. It was a similar story all over the ship. While the Artemis fared better than many other ships, the loss of nearly 30% of her crew had vast and far-reaching effects.

Dakora: I understand, they've been through a lot. The whole crew has. What are your next steps and how can we help?

Salkath: Compile a priority list, and we will ensure that repair crews tackle them as efficiently as they can. ::pause:: However, if I may be so bold, I would suggest you entreat Command to place the Artemis on an extended break from active duty. We need time. And I would not be surprised if my department wasn't the first to suggest this need.

MacKenzie: I’m going to be honest, we’re not going anywhere for a while. Certainly not out of the system, let alone out of the quadrant and back to the Borderlands. I think we should also rotate small leave opportunities for the crew… Commander?

Talos turned to Addison and nodded his agreement again.

Dakora: I agree completely. That gives us time to patch things up and our crew time to process… everything.

Salkath: response

She nodded affirmatively.

MacKenzie: Great, let’s do that. How does that potentially impact our repair time, assuming we won’t get any help from Starfleet?

Salkath: response

It wasn't ideal, but it'd have to work. With nearly every ship in the fleet needing at least some level of repairs, resources were stretched thinner than thin.

Dakora: It is what it is. We can try and sweeten the deal for anyone who is willing to stay and work extended shifts. More leave days for the next deployment? Additional holodeck hours?

Addison rocked her head back and forth and he knew she was chewing on an idea.

MacKenzie: I’m wondering if there are other ships in the vicinity with whom we could pool resources – both personnel and technical – to see if we can all get up and running a little faster…

Talos rubbed his chin and thought for a moment. When the idea occurred to him, he wasn't sure if was brilliant, or stupid.

Dakora: Maybe we can reach out to Fleet Captain Ranier on DS224? She could possibly loan us some parts and personnel.

He shrugged. Their relationship with Ranier was somewhat contentious due to the frequency of repairs they had required on the Resolution, Excalibur and Artemis.

Salkath: response

MacKenzie: Response

He splayed his hands in front him.

Dakora: The faster we are repaired the sooner we can get back to keeping the peace in her backyard. It's worth an ask. That's all I'm saying….

MacKenzie/Salkath: Response
