(( Rakantha Central Hospital – Rakantha Province, Bajor ))

They’d screwed up. Well, she hadn’t screwed up, but her subordinates had. If anyone was keeping score, this was likely the first major offense committed by Lieutenant Jovenan, but as one ascended through the ranks of Starfleet, one started to assume the responsibility for the safety and well-being of greater numbers of people.

MacKenzie: Lieutenant, a word?

She moved to the corner of the room and waited for the scientist to join her.

MacKenzie: You’ll be responsible for overseeing his recovery and that of Crewman Renirs. You’ll also be responsible for collecting the information from the Bajorans about whatever they uncover in that cave.

She couldn’t tell what the scientist was feeling, whether sadness or disappointment or rage, but Addison had elicited a response. This was a good sign – the scientist would remember this moment and consider it when making future decisions that might place others in harm’s way.

Jovenan: Aye, Captain.

MacKenzie: Consider yourself lucky none of them died.

She was never one to mince words. Without directly telling her that it could have been worse, the implication was clear that she was also not off the hook. A tear rolled down the Edo woman’s cheek.

Jovenan: ::wavering:: Aye, Captain.

MacKenzie: Do you have anything to say?

Jovenan: C-captain, if I may use this occasion to commend on the b-bravery of Ensigns Savel, Gnai and Chevalier. Their actions and d-dedication prevented any further injury.

Addison nodded slowly to herself.

MacKenzie: I’ll take that into consideration. ::pointing:: Go check in on your team.

Jovenan: ::lowers head, defeated:: Aye, Captain.

Her gaze lowered to the floor, she walked from the corner and rejoined Gnai and Chevalier by the latter’s bed. Placing her hands by the railing, she studied his body and the bandage-covered wounds silently for a moment before meeting his eyes.

Jovenan: J… Ensign Chevalier. How much do you remember of what happened?

She watched as Chevalier struggled to speak, struggle to stay awake. The body had a way of healing itself – sometimes it was nothing short of miraculous – but it took its fair toll in doing so. The greater the abuse, the harder the body had to fight in its recovery. Despite the marvels of modern medicine, there was no doubt the ensign had a long road ahead.

Addison’s eyes shifted between the other two officers before finally landing on Jovenan.

MacKenzie: Have him transferred to the Artemis sickbay. I expect regular reports on his progress.

Jovenan/Gnai: Response

She turned and made her way through the door, her heavy hiking boots making a thud-like sound with each step. Muttering under her breath as she walked, she now had a new target: Kyle Morgan. Now that she’d gotten to the bottom of what had happened, she was interested in why the doctor she’d trained hadn’t reported his condition to her as soon as he knew what he was looking at…

(OOC: Up to you if you two want to keep this going.)
