Lorana: Truth is, we have no real way of knowing what will happen :: slight excitement :: I have to admit that this provides an opportunity for us to extend our research to other species. The genetic resequencing can help with countless diseases across many worlds :: even more excited :: we’ve even begun studies into interspecies reproduction. It's very exciting :: beat and then thinks :: Don’t misunderstand me Captain. Your crew is the priority, and if we can use this research to cure them then I want to do that. I guess, I just want you to know that this is experimental :: smiles :: But what isn’t in Starfleet :: nervous laugh ::
MacKenzie gestured for them to begin walking through the arboretum. Only slowing down to take in the beauty of the Brazilian Tulipwood. Luxa worried about her overzealous pitch to her former commanding officer. Truth was, more than anything, she wanted to prove herself to MacKenzie.
MacKenzie: All science is experimental, after all. I have no doubt that you've got a selection of lab rats at your disposal... I know the impacted crew members are just as eager to get to the bottom of this as you are.
Remembering her own experiences and she was certain that they were. To feel like your own body doesn't belong to you, that it's being altered at a cellular level. An insidious betrayal, a horror on many levels.
Lorana: I'm certain they are, Captain. I promise I'll do everything I can to help them.
The Captain smiled, seemingly satisfied with her answer.
MacKenzie: I don't suppose I could convince you to stick around for an extended stay? You can't tell me you don't miss the ship that was your first posting…
Luxa beamed with joy at the suggestion, her tail swayed, ears pricked and whiskers twirled.
Lorana: I would love nothing more, Captain! I've been wanting to visit Jovenan, and Sil. And :: sighs :: I suppose, Zoyara. Of course that last one can wait.
Luxa let out a giggle at her own joke. She couldn't let it be known that she missed her old bunkmate and friend. She was certain that Zoyara missed her too. The captain chuckled as well, which made Luxa smile more widely.
MacKenzie: Interspecies reproduction, eh? Sounds fascinating…
Luxa agreed, but she wasn't sure the captain wanted to hear about their work with larvae and pupae.
Lorana: It's theoretical mostly. One day we hope to help families from incompatible species reproduce. Nothing controversial, captain. Or unethical.
MacKenzie: Response
They walked further down the path in the arboretum.
Lorana: So, Captain. What's new with you? I know a lot has happened since we last met. The Borg. War :: shakes her head :: A lot.
Luxa glanced at the redheaded human. She knew that MacKenzie was a private woman, but no one was an island.
MacKenzie: Response
Luxa smiled and looked to the ship around them. The bulkheads beyond the beauty of the arboretum.
Lorana: Yet, she's still here after all that. The Artemis.
