Alex would have said that he broached the subject that hung between them, but the truth of the matter was what hung between them was their friendship and anything else that they shared hung off of that thread.  Their friendship was the thing, but her battered relationship with Kona pulled heavily on that thread.  She hoped it wouldn’t pull so hard that the tread would break.  But him having brought up the subject - like before - she just couldn’t let it go.

Storm: I’m going to find them, Vitor.  Not because I want to make Kona pay, but because I need to see my daughter. ::She paused unsure if she should continue, but opening her mind up to sense how he was feeling, she said softly.::  I’d think if anyone could understand that, it would be you.

Silveira: I do.

Silveira: I hope this won't be a problem.

Alex held the strap with both hands as she shook her head.  The whole point of her coming to the Artemis was so that it wouldn’t become a problem, so that she would no longer be held back in one place by both beautiful and horrible memories.

Storm:  No.  I won’t let this become a problem. I can’t. ::Alex rolled her black eyes and shook her head.  Almost as easily cast off the thought like it were an old garment.:: I’ll be seeing one of the counselors on board.  I’m sure he or she will help me continue to process through everything.

Silveira: That’s good to hear from you.

There was a pregnant pause as Alex took a steadying breath, and allowed herself to say what she wanted to say.

Storm:  I know it’s been two years, but … it still hurts, ya know?

Silveira: I know… But let's move forward for now… ::He smiled and pointed to his back.:: Even if I am moving back.

Alex rolled her eyes.  Sil had always had a quirky sense of humor.

Storm: Well, I certainly don’t plan on standing still, and you know me well enough to know that backward is not an option.

Alex sensed something from Sil before he actually spoke.

Silveira: Have you been assigned quarters or are you reporting to the Captain first?

The Betazoid reached into her duffel and pulled out a PADD, waving it gently up and down.

Storm: I’ve been assigned quarters ::Alex nodded to the communique  on the PADD.::  But I’ll be reporting to the Captain once, I’m in.  I’d say once I’m in and settled, but :: inclining her head at her bag:: there’s not much to get settled.

Alex saw Vitor’s shrug as they started toward the Artemis.

Silveira: Well, if you know where they are, I can get your duffel bag in your quarters, or take it to the Tactical deck so you won’t have to carry it around?

It was really nice to have a friend who cared.  She knew the transition would come with challenges, but knowing that she had someone on the ship who would both encourage her and hold her accountable would make her shift in circumstances easier.  Alex slowed and lifted the bag off of her shoulder and handed it over to Sil.

Storm:  Thank you, Vitor.

Silveira:  Response

Storm:  And not just for taking my bag, but for realizing I was here, taking time out of your schedule to meet me, for being my friend.

Silveira:  Response

Alex was quick to jump in to assure both her friend and her boss.

Storm:  Don’t get me wrong.  On duty, you’re my boss, and you’ll be afforded every respect and courtesy due you, but ::beat:: today, I didn’t need a boss. ::Alex slowed her pace again and cast a genuine smile at Vitor::  Today, I needed a friend, and that’s who showed up.

Alex resumed her pace and playfully bumped her shoulder into Silveira’s

Silveira:  Response
