Tamio found a smidge of amusement in Gavrin’s obvious confusion after they mentioned the Churchill’s weekly hockey tournaments. If Gavrin’s tall and lanky physique, and obvious nervous mannerisms, hadn’t been enough of an indicator that he probably wasn’t a big sports fan, this certainly hit it home.

Tarsan: What uh... position did you play?

K’Wara: ::big grin:: I mostly spectated. Not much for contact sports. ::gestures with their head towards the back of the Bridge:: The Captain’s Ready Room is over in the corner here. You ready?

The words ‘Ready Room’ seemed to trigger some kind of compulsory nervous fidgeting in the tall Ensign, and Tamio watched patiently as he attempted to combat it. Oh, how many Ensigns had passed through the Artemisian Bridge with that exact fear in their faces?

oO More than has gone out the airlock, I hope. Oo

Tarsan: Aye, I think I am. ::Pause:: Well, as long as the Captain doesn't think I'm trying to take over her ship.

K'Wara: Well, that depends. ::conspiratorial eyebrow wiggling:: Are you?

Tarsan: Nope, no plans to mutiny on my first day…

Tamio laughed merrily.

K'Wara: Good answer. Come along, Gavrin.

They led them towards Captain MacKenzie’s Ready Room, practically feeling the nervous energy emanating from the much taller Betazoid trailing behind them. They almost felt bad for him. If he was this nervous now, he’d be a wreck after the mandatory onboard-grilling.

Perhaps Tamio should preemptively alert Sickbay?

Tarsan:  Oh uh... does she prefer sir, ma'am, or Captain? Or something else?

Tamio blinked, realizing that they’d never thought to ask Addison MacKenzie that question in the time they’d served under her. But then, they were quite certain they’d heard a few of the crew - like Ollie - use “ma’am” without getting airlocked, so maybe the real answer was that the redheaded Captain didn’t necessarily have a preference, so long as you didn’t test her tolerance for incompetence.

That felt like a needlessly alarming thing to say though, so Tamio just smiled back at Gavrin.

K'Wara: Do you know, I’ve never thought to ask her. ::grin:: In my experience, no Captain will ever object to being called Captain, so if you want to be on the absolute safe side, there’s your answer.

Tarsan: Response

Tamio nodded, turned back to the door and activated the chime.

K'Wara: Captain, I've brought Ensign Tarsan.

MacKenzie: Response

After winking at Gavrin, Tamio opened the door and stepped to the side, sending the Ensign forwards.

K’Wara: Welcome aboard, Ensign Tarsan.

Tarsan/MacKenzie: Response

K'Wara: Of course, Captain. Just a momentary distraction, I assure you. ::winks at Tarsan and mouths:: Good luck.

And then, Tamio left the Ready Room behind. Now that that bit of procrastination was out of the way, they’d better get back to their office before the Captain decided to move their quarters to the outer hull... They wondered how much taller that mountain of PADDs had grown in the time they’d been gone.
