Silveira and Lyara had finally stopped their teasing of Gila as their attention shifted to Kolya and his love of the arts with an offer to help watch him when the doctor. However, Lyara felt it was a moment to also point out he needed to be taught a proper hasperat.
Lyara: And we could teach him how to make something so spicy it’ll practically be blasphemous.
Sadar: Do you cook Ensign Lyara?
Lyara not only could cook, but she considered herself a gourmand, at least for Bajoran foods. She had a tendency with other cultures' foods to add a “Bajoran spin” to it, which roughly translated to adding more spices.
Kolya: Dona loves to cook. Even non-Mizarian foods! She even cooked with a Klingon on Deep Space 9 :: looks to his Dona with fresh awe :: I heard that Klingons cook with Batleths.
Silveira: I don’t think that’s a good use of a Bat'leth.
Lyara: I do cook, and if I did use any Klingon cutlery it’d be a mek'leth. But surely your Dona has some advice. ::Turning attention to Gila:: Do you cook doctor?
Sadar: I, uhh... I-I dabble. Th-That is- uhh - th-the replicator doesn’t know many Mizarian foods, so I tend to make them myself. The incident with the Klingon was just, uh, coincidental. I was looking for someone, and they roped me into attending a cooking class with them.
Silveira: Interesting…
Lyara: You ever taken any classes on Bajoran food? Know any good hasperat recipes?
Sadar: Oh no, I wouldn’t have the first clue how to make a good Hasperat. Mizarians don’t eat, uhh, spicy foods. W-We don’t have any spices that would create that kind of flavor profile on Mizabet. ::looks at Silveira:: Y-You made Hasperat for us once though, didn’t you, Sil-net?
Alroyo was shocked at the idea of a culture not even having spices. It felt like insanity to not have your food taste like it was biting your tongue.
Silveira: Yes, it was a slight adaptation of it. The Hasperat I am most proud of was one I cooked for the Captain in Risa. I made a dish for each of the staff attending that dinner, for Talos it was one of their seafoods. ::he wrinkled his forehead, trying to remember:: And I also got something for Genkos… It’s been a few years, it was before we got posted in the Excalibur.
Lyara: I used to do weekly hasperat night with a friend back in the academy. Where I come from on Bajor cooking is seen as a social activity to invite others to help out.
The highlight of her week used to be hasperat nights, she’d even take out the spice amount to not scare away her best friend.
Sadar/Kolya: Response
Silveira: Well I have cooked for years. ::he gestured to Sada:: Sada, Nan and I had a cooking date in one of our shore leaves. We should do that Al. ::He turned to Kolya.:: Do you know how to cook Kolya?
Alroyo smiled at Vitor’s offer of cooking with him; she had another cooking session with Salkath planned eventually. Maybe she could find a way to rope them all together for one big Bajoran cook off.
Sadar/Kolya: Response
Sil winked and tipped his head towards Sadar.
Silveira: One more thing that Uncle Sil can teach you.
Lyara: And Aunt Lyara knows a thing or two.
Sadar/Kolya: Response
She looked to Kolya and gave him a smile.
Lyara: And just know, if you need anything we’re one combadge tap away. ::Beat:: Unless it’s a red alert, that’s a little harder.
She hoped to the Prophets that wouldn’t happen now she spoke it into existence. If she instilled a sense of anxiety about red alerts in this child she’d never be able to forgive herself.

She gave an awkward smile then took a self conscious bite of hasperat.
