Their recent challenges on the surface of Callis I would not be so easily forgotten, surely. Tamio knew that those two weeks of uncertainty - who are still alive? Will we be saved? Will we survive the Things? - would haunt them for a good long while, and they were certainly not in a hurry to return to Callis I. Imril, however, raised an interesting point. If they developed the technology necessary, was it not within their duty to go back and save the Callisians from their fate?

Tamio didn’t know if they could. They’d been saved from the gradual mutations forced upon them, but they had not been fully transformed and allowed to live as Dark Things for generations. Was there such a time that help would come too late?

Imril: Starfleet is at its best when it’s helping people, I think.

K’Wara: ::chuckles:: It’s a blessing and a curse. All right, time to get this exercise underway. ::slides fingers across the console:: First step, planning and executing a flight plan. I think the second moon’d be good.

Imril: ::Tapping console:: Accessing local navigation buoy for updated telemetry and routing vectors. Plotting course.

The flightplan that Imril sent over to Tamo for approval was direct. No fancy maneuvers, no detours, no unnecessary distance covered. Quietly efficient.

K’Wara: Looks good. Feel free to go to half impulse when ready.

Imril: Aye, Lieutenant. Proceeding at point-oh-five impulse. ETA Four minutes.

Tamio watched as their flight continued, their felinoid gaze jumping from console to console. Imril’s slender fingers systemically adjust course when necessary, the background hum as the shuttle slid effortlessly through the vast emptiness outside. They felt their leg twitch uneasily, though they couldn’t tell if it was because of the longing pull for them to take the pilot’s seat themself, or if it was because of the fear of doing so.

Imril: ::Pointing to navigation screen:: That solar yacht is veering a little too close for my liking. Pulling up the local solar eddy chart and adjusting course.

Tamio looked up, seeing what Imril was indicating.

K’Wara: Solar yachts have unpredictable flight patterns compared to our shuttles. Make sure to give it ample room.

Imril was in the process of doing exactly that even as Tamio said so, but it still bore saying. Tamio watched more alertly now. Any but the most flyblind Cadet could program a flight path, but adjusting to real scenarios that occurred mid-flight was as necessary to earn the requalifications. Usually, Tamio would be using sensor echoes to simulate this, but if the solar yacht was kind enough to act as a substitute, they wouldn’t say no.

That being said, it was flying strangely, even for a solar yacht. Pretty though it may be, it was a dreadfully imprecise flying vessel.

Imril: Pinging transponder. Ship’s name is Utaalagarro. Grazerite registry.

Whether in response to Imril’s ping or not, the Utaalagarro suddenly swerved away, a hasty overcorrection. The pilot of this yacht was clearly not very experienced.

K’Wara: It’s drifting pretty irregularly.

Imril: Response

K’Wara: Hm... Continue on our route, but keep it on sensors.

Tamio turned to their console, quickly getting in contact with the Spaceport above Rylor. It may be nothing but a bit of irresponsible piloting, but if ‘helping people’ was a Starfleet vice, the inability to leave well enough alone was definitely a Tamio vice.

Imril: Response

K’Wara: Well, according to the Spaceport staff, the solar yacht was taken out without their knowledge. Belongs to a Grazerite family that’s currently vacationing on the surface. ::smirks:: They sent over security footage.

Tamio shared the footage with Imril, as they both watched a decent group of teenagers - Grazerites, Humans and more - sneak aboard the solar yacht, merry grins on their youthful faces.

oO Well, at least we now know why the pilot doesn’t know how to keep their lane properly Oo

Imril: Response
