Tho'Bi: But it should bother me? Shouldn't it? ::finger pointing at chest:: I want it to bother me.
He seemed to slump back into a heap on the chair. Again, she couldn't help but see the boy he would have been. In many ways she was reminded of Romi, her older brother, who always seemed to be looking for a fight. Mostly he would find it in all the wrong places. Just a boy that was trying to figure out his place.
Lux: It should bother you. It's healthy. When we repress emotions they tend to manifest themselves in other ways. Often more destructive ways.
Tho'Bi slapped his hand down on the arm of the chair repeatedly. Then stopped suddenly and looked to the ceiling.
Lori did not appreciate the erratic, often aggressive displays of behaviour and would have to talk about some boundaries if it continued.
Tho'Bi: ::quieter but unsettled:: I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
Lux: I can't answer that for you Tho'Bi, I wish I could, it would make my job a lot easier. When you feel this way :: paused to think :: this conflict between what you feel inside and how you suppose an Andorian should behave, what do you do in these moments?
He rubbed his eyes and shook his head.
Tho'Bi: ::hushed apologetic:: I’m sorry… I..I.. don't understand the question.
She considered his answer, and thought she'd urge towards something he might find useful to control those big emotions.
Lux: Have you ever tried meditative practice or some techniques? Is that something you'd even consider?
She waited, and watched keenly, his reaction to this suggestion.
Tho'Bi: ::shrugs:: I… I don't… I guess I could try.
Lux: It could be useful to help give you some techniques to control your emotions.
His eyes focused on the floor.
Tho'Bi: ::breathy almost to himself:: I just don't want to be shut down.
Lux: Shut down?
She didn't understand where that was coming from? She had just told him that keeping emotions in was unhealthy. She just wanted to get through to him. He picked up a glass of Srjula Tea. He put it back down without drinking.
Tho'Bi: ::still staring at the bright yellow tea:: If being shut down is what a senior officer needs to be… ::looks at Lux:: …then I don't want it.
Lux: Wouldn't it be better if you could feel something? What are you feeling, Tho'Bi, that you want to shut down?
Tho'Bi: Response
Lux: Well, from what you've said in this session, I think you feel a deep sense of responsibility for what happened on your first mission and that seems to have triggered a lot of unresolved feelings about your identity as an Andorian. That must have been hard to grow up feeling that way, did you ever speak to anyone about it?
Tho'Bi: Response
She listened, and as the end of the session time approached she wanted to try something else so that Tho'Bi may have something to work on until the next session.
Lux: As an engineer you use tools? Hyperspanners and plasma torches, things like that?
Tho'Bi: Response
Lux: So before your next session I'd like you to try taking some breaths if you feel overwhelmed; deep breath in and a slow exhale. It can help you refocus. Count if that helps. Think of it as a psychological tool in your kit.
Tho'Bi: Response
As she said her goodbyes and let the Andorian out. Once he was gone, she had to take several breaths herself. Her report would be interesting to say the least. She thought of several research studies that had been conducted on those who had been raised amongst other species and figured she'd be doing some reading to explore this subject.
