(( Outside Water Treatment Plant - Outskirts of the Bantlox Colony, Laoi III ))

Having to assist with the excavation - and most certainly NOT the demolition! - of a Dominion wreck trapped beneath the foundation of a Federation water treatment plant? I mean, it wasn’t exactly the mission that Gila had departed on, but it was by no means an unwelcome diversion! In fact, this was probably the most welcome kind of diversion, given that a mission which should have been an easy ‘get some samples, take some readings, go home’, now instead carried the implicit possibility of making real historical discoveries!

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Gila was practically excited at the prospect.

Imril: I think the first thing to do is evacuate the colony, or at least this part of it, to a minimum safe distance.

Bim Pend: Evacuate? But I thought you said you wouldn’t blow it up?

Vailani: It's a precaution, Administrator. The ship could have redundant safety protocols but we'll do everything we can to avoid any damage to your colony and its people.

Silveira: True. We just have to be careful.

Gnai: Response

Imril: The hull of a Galaxy-class vessel being over six hundred meters long, I’d say a one-kilometer radius at minimum. Two or three, if possible. We have to consider how far all of this rock and infrastructure could be thrown in addition to parts of the vessel itself. Dominion warships are designed to maximize that kind of damage as much as possible, with intent to destroy whatever destroyed them.

That presented a complication, for sure. With conflicted feelings, Gila considered the best way to approach this. She wanted nothing more than to rely on Vai-net’s natural authority or the superior experience of both LT Morgan and Sil-net, but for some reason, the three of them seemed to be waiting for her decision.

She would never sign herself up as the first member of a remote mission again! Why did that automatically mean that she had to make these decisions!?

She wanted nothing more than to be part of the excavation process on the Ship - it was such a one-of-a-kind opportunity, it practically hurt inside to even have to consider not being a part of that! - but Ensign Imril was right. An evacuation had to happen, and considering the skills of the team members, she was the most suitable for the medical professional to deal with the injuries that associated evacuations. (Not that she was expecting this to develop into a true crisis, but expecting the worst was the safest way to ensure you weren’t caught by surprise.)

Sadar: Right... ::looks to the team:: Ensign Imril, Sil-net; do you think you could find a way to get into the Ship? ::considers:: Or at least a way for our tricorders to get through the interference without malfunctioning?

Silveira: I am sure we can cut it.

oO Please, by the Wheel, don’t cut open a historical wreck! Oo

Imril: ::Mid-way through a diagnostic:: Targeted operation system corruption. It’s destabilizing user interfaces and hijacking the systems that our tricoders and such use to talk to each other, spreading itself like a computer worm. We can expect our communicators to go buggy, too, if they haven't already. My best guess at present is we’re all being affected by one of the security protocols I mentioned. Jem’Hadar fighters don't have viewports; the ship’s First and Vorta get to see everything outside the ship through eyepieces linked into the sensor net. The interference could be a means of keeping us from accessing that data feed. Our gear is a little more advanced than the colony’s, I expect, but that’s just slowing the process down.

Gila looked between Sil-net and Ensign Imril. While Sil-net had her utmost confidence, he could be a bit of a wild card at times, and at others, at least a +10% on a risk assessment analysis. Ensign Imril, meanwhile, had proven competent at their job, but not always the calmest mind in a crisis.

Sadar: Assistant Chief Morgan, w-would you mind staying with them, in case whatever’s acting up inside the Ship gets, uhh...  Worse?

Morgan: You bet, boss.

Gila felt a shiver go up her spine at the unwelcome insult that was the Assistant Chief addressing her as ‘boss’.

Sadar: Vai-net, Lieutenant Gnai, please come with me and the Administrator to start evacuating the nearest districts of the colony.

Vailani: :: nods :: Administrator I'd like to know which facilities you have on the planet? Specifically transporters, shuttles and anything used for transporting cargo or produce?

Gnai: Response

Bim Pend: Very well... This way then.

Gila and the others started following the Administrator, before Gila had the strangest notion of a premonition. She turned around, narrowing her eyes at the Artemis Tactical Chief as she did so.

Sadar: ::to Sil-net:: Do not go in there without us!

Silveira: Moi? Of course not.

The feigned innocence with which the Human male responded to her did not inspire confidence, and Gila suspected that the anxious look on Ensign Imril’s expression indicated that it had a similar effect on them. Nevertheless, despite her position as mission head, Gila did not think it her place to sow doubt around the Tactical Chief’s trustworthiness... Usually, Sil-net handled that quite well on his own.

Instead, she followed the other team, quickly reaching Lieutenant Gnai and the others.

Sadar: Lieutenant Gnai, are Ensign Imril’s calculations accurate? Would a two or three kilometer radius suffice for a safety perimeter?

Gnai: Response

Sadar: Vai-net, how do we do this? Transporters?

Vailani: The transporters yes but they have a limited capacity. The important thing is :: to Bim Pend :: is to reassure people that that is a precaution and temporary, however it is important that they evacuate calmly. We can set up transportation zones, coupled with shuttles and transport vessels. We'll need a list of the communities and the occupants?

The Tellarite administrator’s expression wasn’t very clear on whether he was genuinely happy to help, or whether assisting them with assisting him was just a necessary evil.

Bim Pend: Right right, I’ll have my aides pull those records for you.

Sadar: Are the other settlements able to receive evacuees until we’re certain the Ship has been neutralized?

Bim Pend: If they aren’t, I’ll make sure they will be very quickly.

She believed him.

Gnai: Responses

(( Outskirts of the Bantlox Colony - Laoi III ))

Vai-net discarded her tools as they came within view of the nearby settlement. Considering that Bantlox was supposedly the first settlement on the planet, it was quite small. Perhaps the development of subsequent settlements wasn’t an indicator of Bantlox’ success, but rather evidence of a miscalculation in the placement of the first settlement?

Colony politics wasn’t Gila’s strong suit, but she knew enough to be able to make an educated guess.

Vailani: Do you have a communications network?

Bim Pend: Of course we do, we don’t live in the Dark Ages! ::grumbles:: We have a globalized network that connects us to the other settlements.

Gnai: Responses

Bim Pend: We’re frontier, not medieval.

Vailani: I can't stress this enough. We need the colonists to remain calm, there is no reason for anyone to panic. If people panic this will not go smoothly and people can get hurt.

Bim Pend: I heard you the first time. Do I seem deaf to you?

Knowing that this was a diplomatic explosion waiting to happen, Gila hurriedly - and in a manner very indicating of how used she’d gotten to playing mediator in the past week - sped the conversation along.

Sadar: ::clears her throat:: C-Considering the layout of the settlement, the coastal fields would p-probably be the easiest location to gather everyone and, uhh, o-organize evacuation groups?

Vailani/Gnai: Response

Sadar: We’ll get the evacuation zones set up... P-Please get the evacuation itself started

Bim Pend: ::grumbles:: Comes in here and act like they own the place. ::louder:: I’ll get my people gathered.

The Tellarite Administrator walked off in a huff - or was this just a normal gait to his people - allowing Gila to breathe out in relief for the first time since they arrived.

Vailani/Gnai: Responses

Sadar: The relations between the Federation and the DMZ colonies hasn’t been the best since the war... A-Afraid we’re going to have to be the first step for Laoi III to start trusting it again. ::to Vai-net:: All right, Chief of Operations. How can we help?
