It should be concerning that Gila made an astounding amount of acquaintances through the very literal happenstance of her bumping into them, falling over them, barrelling into or tripping over infrastructure and/or injuring or embarrassing herself in their vicinity. It was something that occurred not every day, but at a significantly alarming frequency that Gila was certain the word ‘klutz’ had been used about her more than a few times in private company.

The first time she did so in front of a junior officer was when she literally tripped over the doorstep of that sightseeing cruise she boarded alongside then-Ensign Gnai. Then she’d fallen asleep on duty and entirely ruined her credibility as a medical professional in front of Ensign Syrex. And now?

Questioning the Captain’s decision to promote her twice-over was a rather frequent occurrence for Gila, amplified by incidents such as this one.

Sadar: Ah, yes, uhh... H-Hello Ensign. I’m Doctor Sadar. ::pauses:: I-I’m sorry for interrupting your work in, uhh, such a... Kinetic manner?

The Andorian thankfully hadn’t seem too incensed or insulted by her mistake - she never could tell with Andorians, who were quite well-known for their tempers - but then his eyes seemed to latch onto something on her collar, and his entire demeanor switched on a dime.

Tho’Bi: :: snaps to attention :: Apologies Lieutenant. :: speaking too quickly :: I failed to properly observe your rank and consequently failed to properly acknowledge your rank :: deep breath :: I was working the tricorder :: points at his antennae :: with my antennae :: rocks head from side to side :: and that always makes me a little fuzzy.

It was a delightful change of pace to have a member of the crew actually observe the necessary codes of conduct for how to interact with a ranking officer, though the fact that Gila was the ranking officer in question caused her no shortage of distress. However, for once, she allowed herself to rest in the ready knowledge that - at the very least - she could be quite certain Ensign Tho’Bi, in all his wisdom, would not request a first-name basis within 10 seconds of meeting her.

Delightful!

Sadar: Ah, well, I’m... I’m looking for someone to answer some questions about the new sensors that were installed on the USS Galaktoboureko... Uhh. One of our shuttles. ::slight pause:: I-I don’t suppose you’ve heard anything about the project yet?

Tho’Bi: :: gestures with his tricorder :: Yes, I read about it on my Padd :: looks down at tricorder :: but this... is... a... tri-cord-er :: places hands and tricorder behind his back :: Yes,  USS Galack-toe-bore-echo :: tilts head slightly and then straightens up :: type eleven shuttle craft.  16.5 meters in length.  Warp 6 capable. Type 5 phasers.  Microtorpedo launchers. Do my antennae seem wonky to you?

There was a moment of clarity that dawned upon Gila, like she’d just been doused with a bucket of ice water.

oO Ah. This must be what it’s like talking to me. Oo

That awareness didn’t assist her anxiety, of course, as she knew exactly what kind of mental state she herself was in when she devolved into frantic work natter, and so she didn’t want to entirely disregard Ensign Tho’Bi’s ramblings, but she had to try and find something to soothe, a way for them to move out of the ‘don’t know what I’m doing, so for the moment, I’ll just talk endlessly’.

Let it be known to the gallery, that expecting Gila to be good at calming others down is moronic.

Sadar: Y-Your, your antenna? ::looks:: Uhh, n-no, I think they look standard? D-Do they feel off? Do you need to lie down? I-I don’t have my medical tricorder, but I could probably do some rudimentary-

Tho’Bi: Response

Evidently, some of the Engineers around had noticed the rapidly devolving minds effectively blocking part of the workspace near the warp core, so in an effort to not only get some peace in their place of occupation - but also maybe to save the two aliens from themselves - a human Enlisted started clearing their throat uneasily, evidently hoping to pass the two of them.

Gila noticed early enough that she wouldn’t devolve any further due to the improper conduct she’d committed of obstructing the work day of the engineering department with her failure to address the concerned mood of the Ensign.

Okay, so maybe she would devolve more, just a bit.

Sadar: Oh, s-sorry! ::to Tho’Bi:: We should, uhh... D-Do you mind answering some questions about the sensors for me? I need to beam aboard some biological samples for a project, and, f-frankly, I don’t understand half of the engineering jargon in the report.

Tho’Bi: Response

She walked a bit off to the side, intending to clear space for the Engineers to resume their tasks.

Sadar: I know the sensors are a lot more fine-tuned, so as to read the background radiation more clearly, but will that complicate the calculations for locating biological samples? I have a very broad spectrum of acceptable example samples, but if the sensors are getting overwhelmed by data... Am I making sense?

Tho’Bi: Response
