((Operations Center, Deck 5 - USS Artemis))
Ollie had not turned from the hologram. Imril didn’t blame them.
Imril: ::Pointing to the hologram:: Can I ask what’s on the display?
Bergmen: Lieutenant Brexis here, from her role as StratOps Officer, requested to review reports on the ship readiness. Supplies, maintenance records, crew training, and so on. I tried to answer some of their questions on the topic of maintenance, but she felt it would be better for an engineer to explain the details on the various works done by the Engineering department.
Charlotte held up her hand and waved it around a bit.
Brexis: I was really interested in something Bergmen said about your Engineering general stats. I don’t know much about it, but I’d like to hear more about how you achieved that. Since you are here, some thoughts from Engineering are extremely valuable too.
Imril: And how might I be of help?
As soon as she opened her mouth, Bergmen spoke up just a bit quicker than her.
Bergmen: Mrs. Brexis? It’s your review, so ask.
Brexis: ::To Ollie, correcting him gently:: Please, Lieutenant Brexis. ::Turning to Imril:: I would like to hear about what you did to improve your stats. Just general work? Or have you been working on something specific?
Bergmen jumped in with an attempt at helpfulness.
Bergmen: ::not glancing at Imril:: If you need to retrieve any supporting documentation, Lieutenant, just let me know.
Imril: I would think that should be covered by my last preference review. I logged extra hours during a recent ship’s refit. I imagine that in the next review cycle, my numbers will dip slightly due to my taking some vacation time down on Ferenginar. There’s also the matter of a little invention of mine which facilitated faster and safer repairs to certain parts of the ship damaged in the battle which necessitated the refit. You’ll find that in the Engineering database under Miniaturized Structural Integrity Field Generator.
Were they reporting or bragging?
Brexis: Right… ::looking back down at the PADD:: Well, how do you feel about the Engineering Dept. as a whole, when it comes to the ship's readiness for emergencies?
She looked up from the PADD in her lap and made a valiant effort to keep her expression neutral.
Bergmen: ::still not glancing at Imril:: That should be all on this, right, Mr. Imril? Anything else, Mrs. Brexis?
The Betazoid sat back a bit. Probably trying to figure out where she fit amid the disjointed dynamic that was Imril and Ollie.
Brexis: I’d like to hear the rest of what Lieutenant Imril has to say, but if you are needed elsewhere, feel free. I do appreciate your time. ::Beat, then a firm reminder:: And please, It’s Lieutenant.
She turned her full attention back to Imril and gave him a smile.
Brexis: Please. Continue.
Imril: Of course, Lieutenant. I’m sure I don't have as full a picture as the Chief in terms of readiness. And I won't presume to speak for them. But I’ve been with the Artemis for roughly a year now, and we have an excellent team by my own estimation. They know what they’re doing. I trust them. I’m confident we can meet any challenge presented to us.
Bergmen: Response?
The woman listened to Imril. Nodding when it felt appropriate.
Brexis: Do you mind if I get that information sent to me so I can go over it more later?
Imril swallowed a sigh of relief that came when the Chief's attention was focused fully on Ollie once more. They could have taken the moment to sit down. But that might have appeared too much like inviting themself for a longer stay than she had intended.
Bergmen: Response?
The awkwardness had reached critical mass. She stood up, smoothed out her uniform and gave the two of them a smile and a nod.
Brexis: Thanks to both of you, for your time. If I need anything else I will let you know.
Imril: ::Nodding:: Lieutenant.
Bergmen: Response?
With that, Charlotte headed for the exit.
Whatever else happened between the two remaining officers, that was the last time that such amateurish behavior could be allowed to derail official business.
Imril: ::Embarrased:: Well, that was… a thing that happened. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make things more… this… than they ended up at the Elysium.
Would Ollie look at them, now? If so, with what expression.
Imril was stricken by how much those answers mattered to them.
Bergmen: Response?
They spoke with true gratitude.
Imril: Thank you for respecting my request.
Bergmen: Response?
Ollie deserved more than that. He deserved an explanation of why Imril had asked for that time. Had needed it, before they themself could even begin to put together their own feelings for him.
Imril: Can I sit down?
Bergmen: Response?
