Routine.

Nothing felt quite as good as routine to most Vulcans. They were grounded in and followed at least some logic. Even if that logic were personal to the one following said routine. It was one of the things that had drawn Savel to Starfleet, and specifically security. While both professions certainly had a tendency to present you with a curveball, to borrow a Human expression, it was still confined in a structured environment. Each day he woke, he knew exactly what he was required to do, where he was required to be, and when, even if he may not necessarily know what else may occur.

Today had started like many of the rest, with the Vulcan following a rigidly structured routine that eventually led to his arrival in the Security Center. After the disastrous Frontier Day, the Artemis had assumed its rightful place as Starfleet's flagship in the Borderlands and was on her way back there.

Unless they crossed paths with another Borg Cube or some disaster struck, Savel did not anticipate they'd be yanked far from that course.

Savel had been assigned as the Officer of the Day for the oncoming duty shift, which left him responsible for essentially running the day-to-day operations of the security department that weren't handled personally by the Chief of Security. That included monitoring any communications from the Bridge about the ship's current status.

As he glanced over some of the shift assignments for the day, they received a standard report from the bridge.

Compared to some of the last excursions that the Artemis had been involved in, this particular assignment lended itself to what Savel had found some great personal comfort in.

Routine.

He stood from his chair at the console as he decided to start with some basic preparations. There was no need to go rounding up team members and securing shuttlecraft, but they could at least start gathering some equipment. Still, he wanted someone reliable to assist him so he sought out Ensign Solas who had been scheduled to work along with him today.

Savel: Ensign Solas, I require your assistance.

Kel: Response

As he approached, he handed over a PADD that had the message from the bridge on it for Kel to look over.

Savel: As we are unsure of the exact parameters of any potential rescue mission, or if one will indeed occur, our preparations at this stage must be minimal.

Kel: Response

He took the PADD back from Kel once he was done reading and started to walk. The Artemis did not have a Marine component on board, so any away teams dispatched on a search and rescue mission, whether to another ship or the surface of a planet, would be accompanied by security personnel. Those personnel needed to be sufficiently equipped for such an undertaking.

SavelWe'll plan things down here, and keep other departments up to date with our progress.

Kel: Response

Savel led the way until they'd reached the Briefing Room attached to the Security Center. It was set up much like a classroom or lecture hall, but much smaller than either. There was enough space inside for a couple of away teams to gather with some tables and chairs facing a viewscreen at the front of the room. The lighting was already dimmed down to make seeing the screen easier.

As they walked in, Savel tapped a few buttons on the display of his PADD to transfer the information onto the viewscreen. A map of the Celendi Nebula appeared on the majority, while a small information box took up the last quarter making a list of known information. Which wasn't much.

MISSING CIVILIAN FREIGHTER
DESIGNATION: TRITORIAN
CREW: UNKNOWN
CARGO: UNKNOWN
DESTINATION: UNKNOWN
CURRENT LOCATION: CELENDI NEBULA - PRECISE UNKNOWN

Savel: For now, we will focus on security concerns and how they could potentially be addressed. Whether through equipment, personnel, or tactics. Until we receive any further information, we'll treat this as a standard search and rescue mission preparation with no special conditions. Any suggestions to start us, Ensign Solas?

Kel: Response

He gave a single, short nod in response to Kel's suggestion before his PADD interrupted his work. Another communication from the Bridge, this one had a bit more flair to it however, as it was only sent to certain personnel.

END OF MESSAGE.

\\

He silently tapped to acknowledge he'd read the message before walking back over to Kel. Since he was a part of the senior staff too, he was handed the PADD once more to read over the screen.

Savel: Things have potentially been made substantially more complicated for us, Mr. Solas.

Kel: Response

So much for that routine.
