Kel: What about you? It may not be a ‘logical’ position, but I imagine there’s a particular duty shift you find, preferential, over the others.

Ensign Savel kept busy working on the rifles that were left.

Savel: I do agree that there is a clear importance of maintaining and understanding the role of the Security Center on the ship. ::beat as he broke down another rifle:: I still, however, prefer to be given an assignment on a patrol in a busier area of the ship.

Kel: I’ll have to see how I enjoy that assignment.

Savel: I find it intriguing to have an assignment where one of my main priorities is to observe other members of the crew. Interfacing with other species and gaining knowledge on them was a primary motivator for joining Starfleet.

AFter he finished working on another rifle , the senior ensign paused before continuing.

Savel: Ensign, if you would permit another personal question, I believe I have one.

Solas tapped his way through the info on another rifle before nodding absentmindedly towards Savel.

Kel: By all means, please ask.

Savel: Very well. I am curious as to what your own motivations were for joining Starfleet. And specifically the Security department. ::queue the brow thing when he realized he didn't phrase it as a question:: What were they?

Solas paused, his fingers hovering over the surface of the rifle display. The question, while deeply personal to him, was in no way out of line. The trouble, how could he give an answer that was rooted more in logic than emotion?

He couldn’t.

Kel: The Sciences are….complicated.

Savel: Response

He laughed.

Kel: No I mean, you can do good in the sciences but it’s never straightforward. It’s always, always about how your work can help people down the line. Months or years from now.  But if I pull you out of the path of say, a Jem’hadar’s disrupter or a from under a piece of broken hull. That’s something right now. Does that make sense.

He looked to his fellow Vulcan, hoping he had phrased his feelings….logically.

Savel: Response
