((Main Engineering - Boraxian Ship, ‘New Hope’))

Without a word, the Boraxian Engineer took several small steps toward one of the few Boraxians on duty in Main Engineering; soon a scant number of others joined, speaking in a quick exchange of low whispers, before Dariell rejoined the Away Team.

Dariell: Lieutenant Commander, Engineer Tho’Bi, will you still assist with purging the tanks? My monitors confirmed they can handle it on their own, but I assume you’d like to oversee and assist, yes?

Silveira: We will, Ensign Tho’Bi are you ready?

Tho'Bi: ::to Silveira:: Aye, Aye, Sir.

Silveira: As for you Ensign, following your theory scan us and see if the lighting has any pernicious effect Human and Andorian physiology.

oO Lighting? Oo

Cole: Yes Sir.

It was the first the Andorian Engineer had heard of a lighting effect.

The Security Ensign snapped open her Tricorder and scanned the three members of the Away Team. The Andorian could only assume this was related to the scan Ensign Cole had shown Lieutenant Commander Silveira earlier.

Dariell: ::to Away Team:: We're good to go to the subchamber. My people are instructed, and the tanks will be disconnected in the sequence in which we will purge them.

Tho'Bi: ::to Silveira:: Purging the tanks is only half the job, Sir. If the Theta-Band Transceiver is not repaired, the Theta-Band Radiation will continue to leak back into the supply line.

Though uninterested in the idea of ordering a Space Walk, the Lieutenant Commander came up with an alternate solution.

Silveira: Request a DOT from the Artemis to help with the repairs. I don’t want to risk anyone on a space walk right now.

The young Ensign nodded and tapped his combadge.

Tho'Bi: =/\= Lieutenant Minthar, Lieutenant Commander Silveira needs you to dispatch a DOT to repair a Theta-Band Subspace Transceiver at these coordinates ::taps PADD:: Route DOT command interface to my PADD ::beat:: Serial Number 101 303 314 23 ::beat:: So Engineer Dariell can oversee the repairs ::bows slightly toward Dariell::

Dariell: Response

((Exterior - Underside Hull, New Hope))

The ancient hull zipped below it. Unlike the gleaming silver grey of the Artemis, the heavy metal alloy was space worn, peppered with dust strikes and pot marked with tiny asteroid impacts. The small cylindrical robot slalomed around first one, and then another, of the great hulking, hexagonal transceivers towering upwards from out of the hull and downwards towards the darkness of Space.

As it neared the assigned coordinates, it applied retro ion thrust and slowed. As instructed, it then established a connection with the designated PADD.

//DOT PROTOCOL COMMAND FEED ENDS//

((Main Engineering - Boraxian Ship, ‘New Hope’))

Piiiiiiing! The protracted ping confirmed The DOT had established a command interface with the PADD. Starfleet Operational Base Code flashed across the screen for a moment. It was replaced by a visual feed from the DOT. The hexagonal transceivers loomed above them, framed by the orange text and graphic of system status and the DOT's Protocol Command Feed.

The Andorian Engineer held the PADD so his Boraxian counterpart could see it. As he did so, Ensign Cole worked around him with her Tricorder.

Dariell: Response

Silveira: It’s like having an Engineer outside, it can be directed and instructed easily.

Cole: ::Scanning Silveria:: It’s considered safer as well.

Tho'Bi: ::to the DOT via his PADD:: Initiate granular component scan of Transceiver

The Andorian turned to speak to the Boraxian Engineer but was interrupted by the DOT.

Tho'Bi: ::to Dariell:: The DOT will ana-

DOT: ::via PADD:: On it like a comet!

The Andorian shifted without purpose and attempted to continue his conversation with the Boraxian.

Tho'Bi: …analyse the Transceiv-

The DOT interrupted again.

DOT: ::via PADD:: Scan complete. Fault found.

A three-dimensional schematic of the transceiver superimposed in orange over the regular visual. A quartet of chunky hexagonal capsules lifted out of the schematic in red.

DOT: ::via PADD:: Four Theta-Band Accelerator Generators have failed. Replacement parts required to effect repairs.

Silveira: Get whatever is needed and finish the repairs.

Dariel: Response

Cole: ::to herself:: This is curiouser and curiouser.

Tho'Bi:: ::to the DOT via his PADD:: Disconnect faulty components ::beat:: and secure them for transport to New Hope.

The Andorian turned to speak to the Boraxian Engineer.

Tho'Bi: ::to Dariell:: Where is best?

Dariell: Response

Moments later blue light shimmered and deposited four chunky hexagonal capsules within the floor to ceiling hexagonal column of transparent radioactive shielding. A quartet of elegant robotic arms hung over the four capsules, glistening ever-shifting metallic colours traced up and down long umbilical cables that stretched from the ceiling to the robotic limbs.

A control console of four sets of 61 tiny transparent hexagons stood ready for investigation by Engineer, both Boraxian and Andorian, and Security/Tactical Officers alike.

Ensign Cole stepped to one side and began to pore over the Tricorder scans she had performed on the three members of the Away Team.

Silveira: Very well Ensign Tho’Bi, run a scan on this. I want a definitive answer if it was an accident or not.

Tho’Bi: ::quietly:: Aye, Aye, Sir. ::Bows slightly::

Dariell: Response

The Andorian Engineer took up a position to one side of the control console, Tricorder in hand. This allowed the Boraxian Engineer the space needed to operate the console.

A series of red lights danced across the Engineering Tricorder display, accompanied by a dull fuzzy electronic tone.

Tho’Bi: ::to Dariell:: The outer casing is interfering with my scans. ::beat:: Can you remove it from one of the Accelerator Generators?

Dariell: Response (if required)

The Tricorder of Ensign Cole chirped and beeped as she took another scan of the Away Team.

Glistening ever-shifting metallic colours slinked down the umbilical cables to quartet of robotic arms. Silently, one of the arms extended to the nearest of chunky hexagonal capsules and clasped it between shimmering metallic digits. A second and third arm unfurled towards the capsule. The index fingers of arms two and three morphed into hexagonal barrelled plasma cutting torches. In one elegant manoeuvre, the first arm rotated the chunky capsule as the two plasma torch fingers drew a super hot line around either end of the casing. The fourth arm then arrived and slid the outer casing off and away from the capsule.

Tho’Bi: ::to Dariell:: ::nodding:: There is no spoon ::beat:: ::smiles:: that is to say, good job ::bows slightly::

Dariell: Response

Dark blue eyes tracked across the display of the Andorian Engineer's own Tricorder, as it scanned the now exposed inner workings of the Accelerator Generator; an octad of tightly wound coils, feeding into a quartet, then into a pair, and finally into one.

Like her roommate, Ensign Cole was deep in thought when the Lieutenant Commander inquired as to her progress.

Silveira: Ensign Cole, any results regarding the lights?

Cole: Bear in mind I am not a medic. That being said, these results are interesting, but also concerning. We should definitely get checked out by Medical once we’re back on the Artimus.

The Chief took a deep breath.

Silveira: It never gets easier…

Cole: I should elaborate. ::pointing to Tho’Bi:: As an Andorian Tho’Bi appears to be showing elevated levels of dopamine, serotonin, and glutamate. Are you having any unusual feelings of feeling over stimulated, euphoria or irritability?

The one meter ninety centimeter Andorian shifted on his feet without purpose.

Tho'Bi: ::slow uneven:: No… my ::points at antennae:: spatial awareness is… fuzzy. But… ::swallow:: after a seizure that happens.

Dark blue eyes tracked around the cloistered Engineering Department. The changing colors of Deuterium impurities projecting across the walls and workstations.

Tho'Bi: ::looking around:: I do find the colors to be very beautiful ::smiles:: perhaps that is connected to your scans.

Silveira: Interesting.

Dariell: Response

Cole: ::gesturing towards herself:: I am showing elevated Beta and Gamma waves. This would explain my alertness, but this will likely result in insomnia, eye strain, and eventual neurological fatigue.

The Andorian felt over stimulated euphoria sounded like a much better deal than insomnia, eye strain, and neurological fatigue. He nodded to himself. He felt good about this, maybe a little too good.

Silveira: Makes sense.

Dariell: Response

Cole: ::looking at Silveria:: According to your scans, Sir. Yours are very similar to mine, however your levels are in the range that might trigger Migraines.

Silveira: I know, trust me.

Dariell: Response

Silvera: Well, one more reason to get back to work. ::he turned to Cole:: Ensign please compile those scans and see if you can send them back to the ship. ::turning to Tho’Bi and Dariell:: Let’s scan those damaged parts and see what we can learn from them.

The Andorian had waited until Ensign Cole's report was complete, before addressing the Lieutenant Commander himself. He was about to inform the Lieutenant Commander that he had already completed the scans, when the Chief's combadge chirped.

((OOC: Tho’Bi turns his attention to Dariell during the Combadge Exchange so I'm leaving it out))

Tho'Bi: ::to Dariell:: Perhaps your team could ready four replacement Accelerator Generators for the Theta-Band Subspace Transceiver.

Dariell: Response

((Exterior - Underside Hull, New Hope))

The smooth cylindrical form of the DOT hung in space, its velocity and vector precisely matched to that of the ancient Boraxian vessel, and so it appeared motionless against the space-worn hull.

A shimmering blue light deposited a quartet of Accelerator Generators between DOT and towering pylon.

DOT: On it like a comet!

The replacement Accelerator Generators found themselves rehomed and connected in a short number of minutes. Thin electric blue scan lines placed over the freshly reassembled transceiver to confirm the repair.

DOT: Repairs complete.

Tho'Bi: ::via PADD:: Return to Artemis.

With that, the silver and chrome robot turned a full 180 on its own axle. Ion thrusters blazed cold white blue and the DOT shot off, slaloming towering hexagonal pylons as it skimmed across the battered hull. It slung outwards across the darkness and back to the sleek silver of Artemis.

((Main Engineering - Boraxian Ship, ‘New Hope’))

With Tricorder in hand, the Andorian Engineer waited for the Combadge exchange to end before addressing the Lieutenant Commander.

Tho'Bi: ::to Silveira:: Sir, the DOT has completed the repair work of the transceiver and has returned to Artemis. ::nods in direction of the subchamber below warp core:: We need only now purge the Warp Core Waste Storage Tanks ::beat:: and the Theta-Band Radiation problem should be resolved.

Silveira/Cole/Dariell: Response

Tho'Bi: ::holding up Tricorder:: The damaged Accelerator Generators show signs of harmonic detuning and phase inversion. ::beat:: This caused the Theta-Band Radiation to leak back into the supply line.

Silveira/Cole/Dariell: Response

Tho'Bi: A combination of quench footprints and dielectric carbonization indicates a build up of Theta-band Radiation four times that of normal. ::beat:: in simple terms, the system was overloaded ::beat:: either through technical error, accident, or sabotage.

Silveira/Cole/Dariell: Response

Tho'Bi: ::to Silveira:: I recommend we purge the Warp Core Waste Storage Tanks immediately.

Silveira/Cole/Dariell: Response
