((Counselor’s Office - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))

There was a bit of dust on the surface of the desk. Not much, but enough to bother Vhysa’lia as it dulled the usual shine that she’d come to associate with the Federation’s aesthetic sensibilities. They swept it away, before settling back into the chair, comfortable and waiting for their patient to arrive.

Kel Solas, as the good Dr. Sadar had explained, had recently been assimilated. And yet, perplexingly, he’d remained unable to remember anything from his experience. Was this due to his hybrid nature, his Vulcan and Bajoran parentage combining in such a way that his brain would reject what he had seen and felt and done? Or was this something else - something psychological? Obviously, there still remained that he might be lying, but Vhysa’lia preferred to assume the best in her patients. It was the only way forward, to retain that positive relationship between those that needed help with their burdens and those that could relieve it.

Whatever was the cause of his lapse in memory, they were intrigued. This wasn’t going to be like the majority of their work in the past, as they needed not work with him to accept a past he couldn’t return to, or deal with distressing memories. There was just nothing there… and that was the issue, it seemed.

Was it worse to have been forced to commit an act that one found abhorrent and to remember it fully, or to not know if one had? In her mind, ignorance of such a past would be bliss - but she’d had the blessing of this new life, such that she didn't need to care what her body had done in her kyn'steya. Kel, whoever he was outside of the sterile picture painted by the sparse few files she’d read, hadn’t been so lucky. He couldn’t simply put that behind him and continue on.

She had her work cut out for her, it seemed.

The door chimed, interrupting their thoughts.

Vhysa’lia: Enter!

Kel: Response

Vhysa’lia got up from where she was sitting behind the desk, nodding to the ensign as he entered. They gestured to the seat in front of them, with a genuine smile on their face.

Vhysa’lia: Please, ensign. Feel free to have a seat, and we can get started. ::sitting back down, folding her hands over a PADD in her lap:: My name is Vhysa’lia. You can address me as Counselor, or by my name, whichever you prefer. ::pause:: May I call you Solas, or would you prefer Kel?

Kel: Response

She nodded, then noted his preference down on her PADD.

Vhysa’lia: So, what brings you here today - aside from Commander Adea?

A little joke, and one that brought a miniscule wry twist to her smile. They’d not had the chance to meet the CMO properly yet, just one of his many doctors. But, she hoped that a small attempt at levity at his expense would be excused - and a way to break the ice.

Kel: Response
