(( Counselor’s Office – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))

(((No rush here, Twinnie - just when you have the time and energy <3 )))

It was rare for a vessel to have a large counseling department, unless it was a specialized Ship like the superhospital, the USS Braveheart, or a crisis response vessel like the USS Victory. An ordinary patrol vessel like the USS Artemis rarely needed more than a couple of counselors aboard for shift rotations, but following Frontier Day, a large number of external counselors - teachers at the Medical Academy, private counselors, etc. - were summoned to temporary service on Starships in order to assist with unpacking the severe trauma that the fleetwide assimilation had caused. Those not assimilated needed therapy to process the experience of having to fight off their assimilated friends and family, as well as the losses caused by such a necessity, while those assimilated had to process the experience of having their free will and identity stripped in favor of the Collective, while also combatting the guilt their actions while assimilated incurred.

Gila had looked over the personnel files on the counselors who would be joining the Artemis’ counseling staff for the foreseeable future, as she’d been helping with drafting up a potential schedule that would allow the counselors to effectively see all those drafted for the mandatory counseling program in a timely manner, while also respecting the counselors’ need for rest themselves. Considering that she herself had assigned numerous of her junior officers to the purview of some of the new counselors, she felt it only right that she be the one to brief the onboarding personnel and ensure that their first appointments went as smoothly as possible.

This was why she now stood in the counselor’s office, currently vacant as she waited for the arrival of one of the more unique counselors who would be assisting the program aboard the Artemis.

oO Logically, we need some more rooms for the counseling program. Our standing room designated for the purpose won’t be enough to support such an intensive counseling effort... I know some would prefer to meet with the counselors in a more relaxed setting, so perhaps the Holodecks could be reserved for counseling appointments on a semi-permanent basis for the foreseeable future? At least while we’re still on Earth, and our crew have other avenues for- Oo

The door chimed and Gila startled slightly at the half-unexpected sound. They were early.

Sadar: ::shrilly:: E- ::coughs:: Enter.

Vhysa'lia: Response

Gila hoped that her face didn’t convey the scrutiny with which she examined the Kobali counselor as they entered the office. Gila had never met a Kobali in person before - having only read what was available on the extraordinary species from remote Delta Quadrant - and she had certainly never expected to serve with one, and as such, the encounter was something of a milestone in terms of Gila’s encounter with alien life.

As a Doctor as well, the knowledge that she was faced with a walking dead was both eerie and fascinating at the same time.

Sadar: Welcome aboard the Artemis, Crewman. I’m Doctor Sadar, and I’m here to assist you with acclimatizing to the vessel, as well as answer any questions your might have concerning the counseling program.

Vhysa'lia: Response

Sadar: Of course. Uhh... ::gestures to the armchair before the desk:: Have a seat.

Feeling very strange about it indeed, Gila took a seat behind the counselor’s desk. Ordinarily, she would never assume the seat, considering that it was intended for the counselor during appointments, but adapting her rigid sense of hierarchy to Starfleet service was always a work-in-progress, and at the moment - considering that she was to brief the newly arrived crewman on her duties and the needs of her fellow officers - she felt it was probably appropriate that she take the seat associated with authority in the current setting.

Sadar: Anything in particular you want to start with?

Vhysa'lia: Response
