((Guest Accommodations - Wallace Colony, Kahines II))
Lyara: Knock knock!
Gila looked up from her position on the couch as she saw the other team arrive at their shared accommodations for their stay at Wallace Colony.
Bergmen: Response
Standing up, she turned to face the two Ensigns and the Petty Officer who followed them, crossing her arms in front of her in an attempt to keep herself together. Playing at this whole ‘leadership’ thing for so long was starting to wear and tear on her, and there were still multiple days left of this assignment.
How did Commander Adea and Captain MacKenzie do this!?
Not for the first time, Gila internalized the fact that her senior officers were cut of a different cloth than normal people. Most certainly different than her.
Sadar: Welcome. Did any issues occur on your end?
Xandeus shook his head, remaining at attention in the presence of the team leader.
Filistrien: No Sir, the interview proceeded without complications. I will submit a full report, including Ensign Lyara’s transcripts, to the Griffin’s computers before the end of the day.
Sadar: Thank you, Petty Officer. ::to Lyara and Bergmen:: Give me the brief rundown then.
Placing a PADD on the table, Ensign Lyara began her explanation.
Lyara: We found out that the ruin was discovered by the two settlers trying to find their niece who had run off. Technically she is the one to be credited with the discovery. ::Alroyo held up a PADD:: We also got a map of the area drawn by Hazel and Barto themselves.
Bergmen: Response
A map was good. Gila noted that there was little mention of any anti-Klingon sentiments, but she wasn’t sure whether this was indicative of the colonists’ innocence, or whether the Ensigns had been prevented from pursuing such a line of inquiry.
Filistrien: What of the Klingon scientists?
Broken out of her deliberations, Gila’s face fell at the question. She was certain the Ensigns were fully capable of surmising how the talks had went based on her expression alone.
Imril: Response
Sadar: W-Well, it could’ve gone worse… Most of the scientists seem interested in doing the survey with as little conflict as possible, but one seems... Irregularly aggressive, even for a Klingon.
Bergmen/Imril: Response
Ensign Lyara moved to the couch, clearly concerned and interested in Archaeologist B’Equ’s behaviour. Gila couldn’t suppress a slightly bitter sensation as she recalled the Archaeologist. This was her first attempt at leading a team on a mission, and it just had to be a cooperative mission with the Klingons. It would’ve been far better if Sil-net or Commander Dakora were in charge of this expedition, but Gila knew why she’d been the one selected, and now, it was her job to make sure it succeeded...
Or at least didn’t end in all-out war.
Lyara: Was it a personal problem she had with you?
Gila twisted her anxiety band at that thought.
Sadar: I, uhh, can’t be sure... The other Klingons were dismissive, but Archaeologist B’Equ seemed... Almost hateful. ::to Filistrien:: I’d like a background check done on her, just in case. One more in-depth than the ones you’ve already done. Is that possible?
Xandeus knit his brows a bit further together, but otherwise didn’t alter his expression. He truly had hoped that his expertise with information hunting wasn’t going to come into play for this particular mission, but he supposed such things were inevitable when one donned the black uniform.
Filistrien: It’s possible. I shall make that a priority task, Sir.
Bergmen/Imril: Response
Lyara: If she’s as aggressive as she sounded, maybe there’s something more to her behavior. I’m not saying there’s a conspiracy involving the empire itself, but she might have some thoughts or beliefs here herself.
Gila didn’t respond. The very notion of an imperial conspiracy was too terrifying, and far above her paygrade, so she didn’t even want to consider it. She also didn’t think Chief Archaeologist Ebova or Historian Trorin seemed nearly agitated enough for the Research Team as a whole to be party to what had antagonized Archaeologist B’Equ to that extent, but Gila also knew that her ability to empathise and understand aliens was radically underdeveloped.
Bergmen/Imril: Response
Filistrien: Regardless of Doctor B’Equ’s conduct, the dig will be commencing tomorrow, yes? ::to Sadar:: How should we proceed, Sir?
See, that was a much more concrete matter, which was about what Gila had the bandwidth to do something about for today. Ideally, she wanted to be as far away from any Klingons as possible, but in the spirit of cooperation, they couldn’t very well do that. She’d signed the Griffin up for an echo survey, which would necessitate the participation of Doctor B’Equ in order to satisfy the Klingons’ demands. While it did provide an opportunity to find out more about her confrontational behaviour, it also limited them at the same time, since Gila had to remain at the digsite to lead the Starfleet side of the excavation.
Sadar: The Griffin will be used to conduct a subterranean echo survey, see if we can identify how much of the structure is underground, and whether it’s something easily excavated without heavy equipment. ::to Lyara:: Ensign Lyara, you’re the pilot. The equipment itself will be operated by Archaeologist B’Equ, who will be accompanying you. ::to Filistrien:: As such, I want you in the shuttle too, Petty Officer.
Lyara: Response
Filistrien: An indirect interrogation, Sir?
Sadar: If possible. If not, just find out how to make her, uhh... Less ‘Klingon’ until the team from the Historical Society can replace us. ::to Imril and Bergmen:: The two of you will be joining me at the dig site. We’ll be coordinating our efforts with Klingon scientists.
Imril/Bergmen: Response
That was unwelcome information. Gila didn’t know what a ‘Scorpionmole’ was, but judging by the way they were described, she wasn’t keen to find out.
Sadar: Ah, I see... ::frowns:: Y-Yes, uhh... M-Make sure to pack your phasers.
She really hoped they wouldn’t have to use them.
