((Main Engineering, Deck 15 - USS Artemis-A))
An unexpectedly wild burst of color came from the jellyfish-like being at the question of planetary coordinates.
Gnai: That is very important!! Perhaps the most important… ::trailing off to think slightly, before speaking again:: Stars are what this is particularly focused on, scientifically. It would be remiss to not try to be as accurate as possible.
Imril hadn’t had enough room in their Academy course load for more space science classes, unfortunately. Or social science, for that matter. (Oh, if Starfleet Academy were a five-year program!) But they did have enough understanding of stellar cartography and astrophysics to get started on such a project alongside a true stellar scientist to fill in any gaps in their understanding. The rest would be a welcome learning opportunity!
Best to make sure Gnai could actually walk to Astrometrics, first.
Imril: Alright, let’s run through those motion tests again. See if there’s any joints still giving you trouble.
The rest of the holograms shut down, and Gnai started to slowly move the joints of the suit again. It raised and lowered the arms, twisting and turning them about as much as it could.
Gnai: Of course, how’s this?
The suit certainly sounded quieter than before.
Imril: ::Scanning:: Not detecting any concerns so far.
Gnai: Perfect, and then… ::following along with whatever instructions Imril gives:: how’s this?
Imril: ::Scanning:: I’m not seeing any problems at all. Nothing that needs to be rotated out of the gear mechanisms.
Gnai: The suit feels better than before, thank you again. ::beat:: About this hypothetical holoproject… do you have a moment to discuss it more?
Officially, the repair session was over and it was time to return to Main Engineering and the emitter build. While some engineers might have padded their time on this project to continue this very interesting conversation on the clock (a certain Bolian came to mind), Imril would be logging accurate start and end times into their duty log.
However, the time required to re-initialize their pet project would be a significant investment. Imril didn’t think the shift supervisor would object to them juggling the day’s schedule around a bit before diving back in.
Imril: I think I can finagle an early lunch break. And you’re very welcome.
Gnai flashed with delight again, before retrieving a PADD that it had brought and left to the wayside.
Imril put the tricorder away in its holster and took up their own PADD. Setting up a new project folder labeled Galador I.
End For Imril
