((Caves near raft, Callis I))

After the cathartic realization that she wasn't the only one utterly confused here, Breys was ready to start problem solving. There was an uncomfortably loud thumping coming from above the party that warned of new and interesting problems to solve.

Breys: I think there might be-

Crumbling rock showered around the group, D'tin reacted fast enough to duck past the majority of it, as well as the massive Thing that now occupied the space between a portion of her friends and the raft. It came out of nowhere, appearing in the cloud of dust with a quiet thunk, a hulking visage nearly completely obstructing her path.

She reached back and attempted to pull Lt. Commander Silveira through as well. Managing to tug him back onto balance and towards the raft while the creature was still gathering its bearings.

Jaran: Raft! Any way you can!

Then the most unbelievable thing happened. The ball of fuzz that Jaran carried around, Fuzzball, leaped out and challenged the Thing.

Jaran: Fuzzball! Come on!

This seemed to actually have some effect. The beast paused for a moment, and let out a long, deep howl that was joined by several others in the far distance. The senior officer took this as an opportunity for wanton violence, deciding to hurl a rock at the Thing.

Munro: Eat that!

Silveira: Good shot but that won’t win you any prizes Commander.

oO If only that would work Oo

The entire team scrambled towards the raft in an organized manner such that the shape of the group resembled an amoeba extending and retracting its pseudopods.

Imril: Don't wait for the monkey! Into the water!

The tactical officer once again held back, beckoning the others to go before him.

Silveira: C’mon

Breys: ::pointing to where she'd land if she missed:: Is the water moving really fast right there or is it just me.

Imril and Jaran jumped first. Imril landed soundly in the water, and with a horrific thud Breys saw Jaran connect their injured leg with a stone next to the raft. A scream confirmed the addition of a new problem. Imril started trying to calm Jaran in their native tongue.

Imril: ::Speaking in Bajoran:: Almost there! ::splash:: You’re got this! ::Splash:: Keep moving!

Munro: Doctor!

Imril managed to help drag Jaran's obviously distraught form into the raft.

Munro: Move it! All of you, now! :: to Silveira :: That's an order!

Breys's first officer, a woman she had heard heroic stories about, paused for a moment, bent over, and picked up another rock. Commander Munro felt the stone in her hands for a moment and then hurled it at the beast yet again. Even the Thing was stunned by this.

Breys felt a tap on her shoulder. She shook herself out of her amazed stare.

Silveira: Watch how you jump, if needed be dive to the water.

Breys: Oh ::she takes a deep breath:: right

She lept for the raft itself. She never was a great swimmer and these waters felt dangerous in their own right. Barely managing to wrap her arms onto a thicker section making up the edge of the base, she hauled herself to her feet.

Beside her at some point Fuzzball had made the leap as well, and was scaling Imril to get onto the raft. Moments later Munro and Silviera came hurtling on top of the raft. Leaving it shaking but still afloat.

Munro: Grab an oar!

Munro and Silviera picked up the two paddles and began to rapidly shove the raft downstream.

Silveira: On it…

The Thing howled in frustration along the shore. There was something about the river that it didn't like either.

Silveira: Are we safe?

Breys: ::as she looks back at the water's edge:: For the moment I think.

Munro/Imril: Response

Jaran: Response

Silviera once again tried to show some kindness towards Breys, smiling weakly.

Silveira: In reply to your questions, we don’t know. To any of it.

Breys couldn't help but laugh a little.

Breys: At least I'm not the only one who's lost here.

Munro/Imril: Response

Jaran: Response

Then everyone was looking at Jaran. Whether or not they were still conscious was a moment to moment question. Whatever the case, it would take a stalwart soul to stay awake through what had to happen now.

Silveira: I don’t like the look of that…

Breys: I don't either. ::as she inspects the broken bone:: We need to try to set this sooner rather than later. I don't know all of your backgrounds, but I think I'm the most experienced in Bajoran anatomy. To do this right I'm going to need help from two of you though.

Munro/Imril: Response

Jaran: Response

This day was getting more and more familiar. How many broken bones of how many Bajorans had she set in her lifetime? Hundreds, most likely. This was going to be trickier, doing it the old fashioned way. It wasn't anything new to her though. Breys began organizing her equipment.

Breys: I hate to do this while moving but I think I'd hate to do it on the shore more. I need someone to hold them still at the knee. I have to perform what's called closed reduction. I'm going to try to place all the fragments of their shin in the right places through the skin. ::she winces:: Also do we have anything they can bite on?

Munro/Imril/Silviera: Response

Jaran: Response

Breys: Ensign Jaran I don't know if you can hear me right now, but I know you know what I have to do. This is going to hurt a lot. I'm going to try to go steady, but not slow. You're going to be ok.

With the supplies together, Breys began feeling the bone. It was horribly off from where it needed to be. Gritting her teeth she gently rotated the leg until the two sections lined up. With one hand she carefully held the damaged section steady to reduce the chances of any shifts happening. What followed was what could only be described as the most excruciating and time consuming puzzle of all time.

Munro/Imril/Silveira: Response

Jaran: Response

As the setting process was coming to its completion, it was clear the extent of the damage was severe enough that some shards were going to remain out of place. This meant more pain for Jaran. D'tin only hoped they could find a way to help manage it soon.

Breys: Alright, now I'm going to hold it here. ::looking at her first assistant:: I need you to keep the knee steady, and I need another pair of hands to start the splint. We all had to take basic first aid right?

Munro/Imril/Silveira: Response

Jaran: Response

After some fuss and several more screams of pain, Breys had done all she could. Chances were it would heal well enough, but broken legs really need sick bays to actually get better.

Breys: Hopefully that's good enough. ::she looks at the stone walls around her for the first time since landing on the raft, and notices the type of rock has changed:: How long did that take? It seems like we're in a completely different area now.

Munro/Imril/Silveira: Response

Jaran: Response
