(( Elysium Mezzanine, USS Artemis-A ))
Ollie paid close attention, eagerly nodding as Adea shared his experience with the Sulibans.
Bergmen: And I thought they were extinct… May I ask - how about nice things? Are there any nice things around, or is everything just grim and dark?
Ensign studied Commander Ade's expression, attempting to decipher his reactions and emotions as the commander spoke.
Adea: Of course, it’s only the odd mission that’s so dark and dangerous. The universe is a wonderful place, full of strange new worlds and brilliant new life. That’s what you have to remember during the dark times.
As Bergmen pored over what the commander said, compared to what he read in the Artemis' mission log, he found it hard to trust this straightforward declaration. To him and what he read, it seemed like every Artemis mission was steeped in trauma.
Bergmen: But if Artemis is the frontline vessel, we seem to be taking on more confrontations and investigations into petty activities than assignments to the peaceful scientific missions, wouldn’t you agree?
Commander took a moment to answer, enjoying a sip of his spring wine and relishing the effervescence.
Adea: You have to remember for every Borg, there’s five hundred wonderful species like the Da’al or the Skarn.
Ensign contemplated the commander's response, clearly attempting to slot the referenced races into an internal ranking of their likability.
Bergmen: I’m sorry, Commander, but neither Da’al nor Skarn rings a bell for me. So… I cannot share your enthusiasm for how wonderful they are.
Ollie drummed his fingers on the table while contemplating what else he could add.
Bergmen: Sir… ::moment:: Would you attribute these races you mentioned more to the allure of Risa, or to... the specific taste that some have for Vulcan?
Adea: Response
Bergmen nodded, and it appeared that the answer satisfied some of his curiosity.
Bergmen: Interesting. I’m more of…Risa type of person.
Adea: Response
