(( USS Artemis, deck 8, Tactical suite, Chief Tactical Officer office ))

Jaseb sat in a chair and made himself comfortable. As he listened to Sil, he was making notes on his tablet. Partially on the task, partially notes of his own about the lieutenant and the impression he was giving.

Jaseb heard a lot of him. Tales of greatness, stories of sadness. Interesting man was against him...

Sil tried to be professional, but that sadness couldn't be hidden, not all of it. Not under fake smiles and averted glances.

Silveira: I think it might be easier if I provided the design and you guys replicate it for me. I have it in my head, but I haven't put it down yet.

Chevalier
: If you wish, we have no problem with either solution. If you have a drawings, or holotemplate, or just words to describe our inner wishes... we can work with either solution. Our product specialists will prepare the holoprototype, you can review it alone or we will meet again, you will get us a feedback and we make adjustments. It's a process and we want the best product for you.

Sil reached forward and rested on his elbows as Jaseb spoke.

Silveira
: I am thinking of it having a few words. Mediator Jovenan in one line and below Saudade. It’s a Portuguese word that doesn’t have a proper translation but can mean… To miss…

Silveira kept the moment in silence, looking away like he was gathering strength to continue. He blinked, took a deep breath before he looked back at Jaseb.

Silveira
: I am sorry. This last mission was… Difficult to say the least. ::he raised his hands:: Also Ensign if you find this task… Uncomfortable, please feel free to refuse. This isn’t an official ship business. It’s a personal endeavour.

Chevalier
: It wasn't easy on either of us, lieutenant. We all lost... they are the same as us. We cannot blame them in their despair and be harsh on their culture, even in moments like this we need to be harsh. We wouldn't compromise our principles, not even in the dark times they faced. We survived Borg, Klingons... Cardassians... we came victorious from the Dominion War. Not because we had better ships, or superior technologies. No, we won because WE-WERE-BETTER. Our moral principles, our fate in the crewmen next to you, and our cohesion as a Federation of equity, those were qualities which brought us victory over darkness. So yes, as you said. This is just a personal endeavor. Your endeavor alone, not ship business. And do not care, lieutenant. You need brother in the trenches, and here I am. You need to heal. We all need to heal. Mediator Jovenan...

oO
I thought it would make you different, but it doesn't seem to change you, Jaseb.. Oo

Chevalier
: ...she... was the one who stood for all of this.

Cold eyes, face pale and smooth. Jaseb didn't move even as he said those motivational and emotional words. He gave them strength, he gave them emotion. Maybe he believed them. Maybe he didn't. Who could say what he hid behind those eyes. Maybe he wasn't rotten outside as his Other, but was he really alive inside, behind his rigged out
facade? Or he was the same rotten monster, just more cunning?

Sil just smiled. Nodded. Not burdened with these thoughts.

Silveira
: I really can't thank you enough. And please call me Vitor or Sil, after all we are on down time. As I said I would like it to have those words carved and… ::His sad smile wavered, there was one more thing he could put there.:: And I might have something else to add. I was thinking of carving a hole so I can incrust a jewel piece in it. ::Vitor nodded.:: Yes I think that would be a nice detail.

Chevalier
: Jaseb, nice to meet you, Sil. That idea of yours... It's wonderful. We can definitively make this. I have even the first idea. Two types of stone, one black and smooth with the words, another raw granite, divided by the carved tree from marble, with the hole in the crown of a tree for jewel. I will make a model and send it to you. What do you think? And don't say no before you see it.

Jaseb smiled a little, with dignity to the moment, as he made another paragraph in his notes.

Silveira
