((Somewhere in the jungle, near the escape pod - Callis I))

Munro: Keep close, watch your footing!

Breys: Right behind you!

Jira was running full tilt, their ankle screaming in pain through the haze of painkillers. Adrenaline made for a great painkiller itself. No time to think about anything else than one foot in front of the other.

Munro: Imril! What did you do?!

Breys: Where are we going?!

Jaran: ::teeth gritted:: We’re headed for the raft. Relative safety. Just keep moving.

Jira saw Breys stumble, then recover as a loud thunk came from behind them.

Munro: Keep running!

Silveira: If I overtake anyone I will leave you to fend for yourselves…

Despite themself, Jira couldn’t help but grin a little at that. But the throbbing from their ankle reminded them of more pressing concerns.

Imril: Response

Munro: It's right there!

They couldn’t afford to look around. They trusted the commander knew what she was talking about. If not, the worst case was that they had run from nothing.

Imril: Response

Silveira: Their closing in…

Munro: Come on!

They had reached the tunnel. It was a milestone to safety. Were they less terrified? Not really. And their pain was getting worse. Looks like the analgesics had met their match.

Breys: Can someone tell me where we are?

Jaran: Our old ::grimacing and groaning:: stomping grounds. ::panting::

Imril: Response

Silveira being true to himself, he moved to usher the team into the underground passageway and nudged Munro.

Silveira: Go on, I’ll close the line.

Breys: This isn't really the time for bravado, come on both of you.

Jira stopped to pant and lifted their foot off the ground for a moment. It was in so much pain, and they were worried another step may not even be possible. Not that this was a time for an argument.

Munro/Imril: Response

Silveira: Don’t force to disobey orders. Please go first Commander.

Breys: They're right behind you two, please!

Jaran: By the Prophets. Just go!

Their pain was obviously ruining their bedside manner.

Munro/Imril: Response

They moved as quickly as possible going into the cave, but they could feel themselves slowing down. Every step was agony.

Silveira: Get to the rafta…

Where had they left the raft? It wasn’t that far, was it? Amazing how memory gets blurry in moments like this. It’s almost like they’d had something else to worry about.

Munro/Imril: Response

They moved quickly as a group, but it seemed like they had a moment to breathe at least. Jira was grateful to limp along for a moment.

Breys: Can someone please tell me anything from the list of: Where are we going? What are these tunnels? What chased us in here? What is that fuzzball? ::she gestures towards the creature Jaran is holding:: How have you all survived these things a whole week? ::her breathing begins to obstruct her speech:: You know what, I'll save the rest for later.

Jaran: This fuzzball is Fuzzball. It’s my doctor, treating me for this sprained ank… ::trailing off and growling in pain::

Munro/Imril/Silveira: Response

Breys: Actually, I do have one more question, do we have a plan?

Jaran: I’m leaving the plans for someone not in excruciating pain. I’m just getting through.

Munro/Imril/Silveira: Response

The source of the sound of rushing water had come into view, and there was the raft. It was close to where they’d left it, but it was at the bottom of a small bluff. It appeared to have caught itself on some rocks, at least, keeping it from being swept further downstream.

Another sound was audible over the underground river, as well. Running feet. The same running feet they’d heard from behind them, now coming from somewhere near.

Breys: I think there might be-

Rock crashed down and one of the pursuing creatures was suddenly in the middle of the team. In between them and the raft.

Jira knew that raft was the only chance for safety, ankle be damned. They didn’t have a plan. They didn’t have a distraction or a weapon. They just needed to run.

Jaran: Raft! Any way you can!

They began running for the bluff. Fuzzball squirmed out of its sling before they could stop it, though. It landed on the ground with a soft thud. It turned and hissed loudly at the Thing.

Jaran: Fuzzball! Come on!

But they couldn’t stop running. Even for their smallest patient.

Munro/Imril/Silveira: Response

They closed the distance to the bluff quickly and looked down. They glanced back at Fuzzball, then back down at the bluff.

oO If I can get the raft back up to the landing, it should at least be a little more accessible. Oo

Munro/Imril/Silveira/Breys: Response

Nothing to do but jump. And jump they did.

It would have been a fine jump for anyone who wasn’t injured. Unfortunately, Jira was in the injured category. The jump was awkward, the landing was worse. They didn’t even hit the raft, but instead one of the rocks next to it. The world swam in a red haze as they heard the crack from their leg. A scream that was probably theirs.

oO No TIME! Oo

Munro/Imril/Silveira/Breys: Response

Jira forced themself to the raft. They pulled themself along with their arms and the one good leg they had.

A stray thought passed their head. At least it was the same leg with the sprained ankle. What luck.

Somehow they managed to get to the raft and move it upstream to smoother landing area. They must have been pushing with their leg, but it wasn’t really clear how it all happened in their mind. The next thing they knew, the raft was grounded just enough to allow the rest of the crew on, and they were… Oh, they were passing out. They felt a small tongue lick their face, and the world went black.
