(OOC: Anyone is more than welcome to tag themselves into this scene if they want to save Gila come enjoy some art with Addison and Gila!)
(( Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis ))
MacKenzie: ::flatly:: You’re not getting put on leave, Lieutenant. But
you also can’t spend your whole life hiding in your work. What do you do for
fun? Do have hobbies??
Sadar: I-I like art. I cook… I sew?
Her eyes narrowed.
MacKenzie: Are you asking me, or telling me, Lieutenant? ::shaking her
head:: You sew? Have you ever sold your garments?
Sadar: O-Oh, no, I’m very much an amateur, Sir.
I-It’s just, uhh... It’s something to get my mind to focus on the process.
E-Empty my head, as it were.
MacKenzie: I see, I see… What do you like to cook? I’m quite partial to
Bajoran hasparat, but part of what I love about Starfleet is the potential to
try new cuisine wherever we travel. Are there any Mizarian dishes you enjoy
cooking??
The Mizarian’s anxiety ring was now being rotated at a million kilometers an
hour. Addison hadn’t intended for the questioning to be quite so invasive,
but in a twisted way, she got a small sense of joy at how some of the crew
responded to her.
Sadar: Oh, uhh, I, I wouldn’t say that, no, I just... ::sighs slightly
at the Captain’s insistent demeanor:: I’m still a novice. D-Don’t have a
favorite, though I think I’m fairly good at making soups and stews.
MacKenzie: If you like museums and art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art
in New York is one of the best on Earth. At least, it used to. …assuming it
wasn’t destroyed by the Borg.
A slight, mischievous smile crept on the corners of her face.
MacKenzie: We should go! The fresh air will do you good.
Sadar: ... G-Go? We? WE should go!?
Addison’s wheels were already turning. She turned toward the door and waved
Gila along.
MacKenzie: Come along, Lieutenant!
Sadar: B-But Sir, s-surely you have-
MacKenzie: I have FUN! And soon, you’ll have fun,
too. Now, move it or lose it.
The feeling of resignation coming from the officer behind her was palpable, and
the red-headed CO of the Artemis reveled in it.
Sadar: ::deflated discontent:: Yes Sir...
(((Timeskip: 30 minutes later)))
((Entrance Foyer - Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
City, Earth))
It had been many years since Addison had last been to the Met. She’d done
her microsurgery fellowship at NYU, but the university and museum were miles
apart and, despite having far too many means to cut that commute to a matter of
seconds, she hadn’t had the free time to escape for recreation if she wanted
to. Now, as the captain of a starship who found its way back to Earth only
because of its probable destruction, she decided to take advantage of their
proximity.
When the pair rematerialized, Addison smiled at the familiar wide halls of the
museum, though her face fell slightly flat when her eyes fell on the residual
evidence from Frontier Day – phaser burns on the walls, displays that had been
staples of the museum now labeled “Currently Under Renovation” – likely in need
of massive repair. Even this place of solitude would not be exempt from the tragedy
that befell Earth that day. Fortunately, foot traffic in the museum was high.
Sadar: I-It’s in a surprisingly good condition, considering... And
packed.
MacKenzie: It could be far worse, that’s for sure.
She waved Gila on toward the first exhibit. When they turned the corner, statues,
tapestries, and excavated cave art from Ancient Egypt filled the massive room.
MacKenzie: The art in this room all comes from an area of Earth called
Egypt. Some of the art here is over 300,000 years old.
Sadar: Response
Addison walked up to a small statue of a pharaoh. The man had dark, narrow eyes
and wore an elaborate gold and blue striped headdress with a snake in the center.
MacKenzie: Sometimes it’s hard to fathom how old some of these items are…
Sadar: Response
MacKenzie: Do the Mizarians conceptualize
art in this way? I must admit, I don’t know much about your people’s culture.
Sadar: Response
Tag, and TBC!
