(( Primary Sickbay - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))
Talos had rushed to sickbay when Samantha had called. Thankfully, the pain she’d experienced turned out to be normal, though the damage to the perpetually nervous Doctor Sadar had already been done.
Either way, Talos was glad to have been there to support Sam and Gila had even been nice enough to show them the little squiggly things on the sonogram one more time.
Dakora: We probably shouldn’t take up too much more of Doctor Sadar’s time. Genkos runs a tight sickbay. ::He flashed Gila a wry grin.:: Was there anything else, Doctor?
Doing his best to block out and ignore the waves of discomfort emanating from the Mizarian Doctor, he met her gaze. Sure, these sorts of surprises didn’t happen often among Humans or Betazoids– at least not these days– but he could only assume it was even more uncommon among Mizarians.
Sadar: Uhh... D-Dr. Rani’s notes don’t say whether she’s offered you to know their birth genders? W-Would you like to know?
Talos’ eyes went wide for a moment, before he turned to Samantha. As if it all wasn’t feeling real enough, finding out what they were having would only serve to drive that point home.
Dakora: Uh… ::He shrugged, looking to Sam for approval.:: I think I’d like to know. How about you?
S.Richards: Response
Gila nodded slowly, turning to the display.
Sadar: W-Well, this one ::indicates fetus A:: will be born female, and this one ::indicates fetus B:: will be born male. Fraternal twins.
For some reason he couldn’t really explain, this revelation filled him with excitement. He clapped his hands together in front of him and grinned.
Dakora: Holy Strokes! One of each!
Sam seemed pleased, but managed to respond more reasonably, asking a question of her own.
S.Richards: Response
Sadar: Unfortunately, we still haven’t found a reliable science to determine how the hybrid nature of interspecies offs- babies, will manifest itself, so that much is difficult to say at this stage.
Despite all of the unanswered questions and the near-unending pile of things they’d have to figure out between now and when the twins were born, for a moment Talos forgot about all of that stuff. Standing there next to Sam and thinking about their kids and who they would become, he could only feel excited. He was sure he’d go back to stress and near-paralyzing nervousness soon, but for now he tried to just ride the good vibes.
Dakora: With your brains::He pointed to Sam, then himself.:: And my… well— uh…– Oh who cares. They’re gonna be great.
S.Richards: Response
Still holding Samantha’s hand, he helped her up and off the biobed.
Dakora: Come on, I’ll walk you home so you can relax.
S.Richards: Response
He turned back to Gila one more time with a grateful smile.
Dakora: Thank you, Gila.
Her expression was hard to read, as she nodded in reply, but Talos thought it looked more like she had a stomach ache than she’d just received his gratitude.
Together, Talos and Sam left sickbay and headed for his quarters. Both of them still had plenty of reasons to be scared and nervous, but Talos now had at least two reasons to be happy.
One boy and one girl.
