(( Tertiary Conference Room - Operations Center, Deck 5, USS Artemis-A )) (((OOC: Great job on Act 1, everyone! Considering how NPC-heavy Act 1 was, let's make sure to focus on the task itself now that we're back in familiar environs!)))
People likely thought it was a lot easier to restructure the internal workings of Starfleet bureaucracy than it actually was. Layfolk seemed to think it was as simple as pressing a button, and whoops, an entire department erased from the face of the cosmos. In reality, it wasn’t like that, and it had taken a lot of manpower to fold the existing Intelligence Department into the waiting Operations and Strategic Operations divisions.
As Chief of Operations at the time, Tamio was sure Lieutenant Vailani hadn’t minded the extra manpower - even if she didn’t like people much - but right now, Tamio would’ve sure liked it if the Intelligence Suite itself had been made a StratOps resource instead of being repurposed for an expansion of Sickbay. For the task that was ahead of them and their team, the technology in that suite would’ve been a welcome addition.
They forced their mind to return to the Operations Center. Consoles around the larger commons of the Center were manned by a large number of personnel, who were actively collaborating with friendly forces in the Borderlands, trying to get information on the current location of the Afalqi in collaboration with the HCO personnel currently assisting the Captain on the Bridge.
Tamio really wanted to be there.
But they weren’t a pilot anymore, they were a Department Chief twice-over, and as the head of Strategic Operations, they had another task today. Quartered off in one of the side meeting rooms, surrounding a holotable, they were joined by Ollie, Imril and Doctor Jaran.
The rest of the department had been given strict orders to not interrupt them for any reason, and Tamio expected them to have complete privacy during this investigation. Out-skullduggering a Romulan was a tall ask already - interruptions would only make it harder - but Tamio had hope. They knew every one on their team brought something unique to the assignment, and would all do their best.
K’Wara: All right, you three. We’ve got until the Artemis catches up with the Afalqi to figure out what caused Havun to turn turncoat and work with the Romulans. The First Secretary seems convinced that only Da’al fingers touched the equipment that went into building the Afalqi and its systems, but I have my doubts.
Bergmen/Jaran/Imril: Response
Tamio accessed the console interface, loading up the surveillance footage they’d requested from Jetripar. The small screens that lined the rim of the table, accompanying their own small interfaces to allow multiple people access, provided a view of the upper gangways of the Afalqi’s launch bay with a small date stamp in the corner.
K’Wara: I’ve found the most likely time that our Romulan interloper managed to sneak into the bay. As you can see ::the footage zooms in on a brief shadow passing over the wall:: something crawled in through the roof here, but knew the precise locations of the cameras and thus avoided being captured on film.
Bergmen/Jaran/Imril: Response
K’Wara: Right, Commander Munro mentioned that. Now that there’s no journalists to waylay you from your order, Lieutenant, let’s see if we can’t find out what’s on that drive. Make sure it’s safe and then plug it into the console.
Imril: Response
They then turned towards the other two officers who’d been assigned to the task. Ollie and Jaran had both been at Havun’s actual office, and while they had apparently gotten distracted by a lot of random personnel on-site, they did seem to have turned up some interesting findings in the end.
K’Wara: Ollie, you might as well get the decryption of that hard disk you took from the receptionist’s desk started.
Bergmen: Response
K’Wara: Doctor Jaran, have you had a chance to look any closer at the garbled transporter data your team found? Or is it too degraded to provide anything of note?
Jaran: Response
