((OOC - this takes place shortly after Ava's meeting with MacKenzie))
((First Officer Quarters 1201 - Deck 02 - USS Artemis-A))
Yet again, she found herself surrounded by unopened boxes on a new starship. It hadn't been that long since she'd packed up and left for the Ronin from her home of eight years on Earth and now she had done the same again - much to Adrian’s annoyance. Granted her daughter, Harper, wasn't exactly a baby anymore and she kept in regular contact providing Ava with frequent updates on her Starfleet Academy classes and avoiding any enquiries into her personal life. Ava only had to think back to her own Academy classes to tremble in fear at what her daughter might be getting up too. If she can graduate without a pregnancy then at least she would be doing better than her mother.
Ava looked at the quarters she had been assigned and they didn't seem to fare so well in the recent skirmish with the Orion Destroyer. Apparently the room had been vacuumed to space, almost with a domestic cat fatality, and it had torn every fixture out so what remained hardly looked like quarters at all. A maintenance engineer looked at her sheepishly, with almost an apologetic eyebrow raise, as he held up a plasma torch and welded a new wall panel in place.
Suzie squirmed in Ava’s arms, her snout poked out from the carry case she had been transported in and extended forwards to inhale the scent of this new territory she would claim as her own. The Yorkshire terrier whined briefly, seemingly unimpressed with the state of the quarters, and wiggled her way out of the case and leapt from Ava's arms to the floor to begin a full inspection. She let out several defiant yelps at the maintenance engineer.
Munro: Don't worry Suzie, we'll make it a home.
As another maintenance worker entered the quarters she decided it was time for a tour.
Munro: Come on.
((Security Training Facilities - Security Centre - USS Artemis-A))
First up was security. It was always best to make sure the security officers were well acquainted with the new XO - or so she thought, this being the first time she could even be called such a thing. She had read various journals, logs and reports from previous infamous XOs, such as Riker. She didn't think she'd suit the beard but maybe the charm she could pull off - maybe.
She had made her way through the offices, introducing herself to the various officers on duty until she came to the training facilities, which at first glance seemed empty. Various stations were erected for converting to phaser training, or an assault course or mixed martial arts. Whatever came useful.
As Suzie ran forwards to go exploring, Ava approached one of the padded training mannequins and she let out a small scream and struck it hard. Had she been thinking of Adrian? The long journey from the Alpha Isles? She didn’t even know what compelled her to strike.
She heard a voice from behind her and turned.
Munro: Oh I thought I was alone. I'm sorry ensign.
Ava tried to smile as Suzie wiggled her way towards this new person to sniff her out. Bouncy red curls met her, with beautiful large eyes. She appeared human but that was never a guarantee in Starfleet.

Munro: :: jokes :: She only looks terrifying. Harmless really. Like me. Nice to meet you, I'm Commander Munro, the new XO and that’s Suzie, the dog.
Suzie turned her head and let out a shrill yelp in the direction of her owner. It wasn't clear if this met her approval or disdain.
