((Counselor’s Office - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))
It seemed Solas wanted to pretend that what had happened during his assimilation had been happening to someone else. Vhysa'lia wasn’t certain if that was healthy for non-Kobali, but it couldn’t hurt in the short term certainly. For all intents and purposes, as a drone, he had been a different person. What had happened was not anything he was culpable for, despite it being his own body that did it.
Vhysa’lia: Solas, do you want to discuss some exercises that you could explore in your down-time to help with what you’re feeling? ::pause:: If not, we can continue to talk about your experience during Frontier Day, or anything else you want to talk about.
Kel: Please Counselor, tell me about these exercises. I would like to learn more.
Good - he was willing to work on this outside of their appointments, and try to find peace on his own time. That was a great sign.
Vhysa’lia: Of course! I’d like you to take some time each day between now and when we meet next to write down what you dream about each night. It doesn’t need to be long, just a few words or sentences.
Solas raised his eyebrow, and Vhysa’lia raised one of their own in response.
Kel: Counselor, I’m not sure I understand how that will help. I know that therapuetic excercises are always a little opaque but, well I guess I would like to know the logic behind it at least.
She nodded. This was something that they had often asked their patients to do as they got closer to being treated, just to see if their memories still were causing them distress. They could be hard to dislodge, worming their way into the subconscious.
Vhysa’lia: Certainly. There’s two main reasons I want you to do this, related to both of the concerns you’ve expressed to me today. One, ::holding up a single finger:: you’re still clearly impacted by the trauma of what you experienced as you were assimilated. Two, ::holding up another:: you’re missing time, and are uncertain if the memories may come back.
Kel: Response
Vhysa’lia: Yes, exactly. I want to learn more about how your subconscious is dealing with this. There might be more there than you’re aware of, hidden below the surface. That can pop up in dreams, hence the journal.
Kel: Response
She pulled a new PADD from her desk, typing on the screen for a moment, and then slid it across to Solas.
Vhysa’lia: Here you go. ::smile:: I’ve loaded a few articles on this PADD about dreams, in case you’re curious about it.
Kel: Response
With that, they stood up, and nodded a thanks to Solas.
Vhysa’lia: Thank you for meeting with me, I hope that this was helpful? I’ll see you again soon, and we can go through what you’ve written down. Let me know if you’re interested in having more frequent sessions.
Kel: Response
With a polite wave, she let her patient exit the office, before sitting down to start writing up her report for his profile. This was a promising start - he wasn’t rejecting their help, and their words of encouragement had seemed to stick. It was going to take more work, obviously, as anything with the Borg would lead to, but she was pleased with the short meeting.
