Captain’s Log, Stardate 240011.02

 

Commander Dakora has informed me that there is reason to believe the crew of the Desdemona may not be the friendly versions of ourselves from another universe we hope them to be. Lieutenant Jovenan apparently intercepted a message from her Shint-world counterpart indicating there may be ulterior motives as they make preparations to return to their universe. I have ordered Commander Dakora and Lieutenant Silveira to work together to both secure sensitive areas of the ship while increasing discreet surveillance of our guests.

 

I’ve tasked Lieutenant Jovenan and our science team to come up with possible conclusions for the message, which was apparently cut short mid-transmission. It is possible we may be making a mountain out of a mole hill, as my grandfather was fond of saying.

 

In the meantime, I’ve asked Lieutenant Yellir to work with the Shint-verse crew to repair and optimize their systems to the best of our ability without compromising the Prime Directive. Despite not knowing their motives, I feel compelled to assist our counterparts to the degree we’re able… It’s very difficult to ignore a request from yourself.

 

That said, they’re not governed by the same laws that we are and, while I feel for them and do not believe they have much chance for success, I am also bound by my duty as a Starfleet officer and cannot run the risk of arming them only to return them to a universe I know nothing about and cannot begin to theorize about the potential consequences.

The door chime rang.

 

When the door swished open, it revealed her former XO-turned-Chief Medical Officer. Her brow furrowed slightly. There was something in his demeanor that didn’t appear quite right. Or was it something in his physical appearance? …maybe that was it? Was his hair more grey than usual?

 

MacKenzie: Commander Adea, what brings you by? I would have thought that your team would be working with Jovenan to get an answer to this partial message we received…
