IDIC indeed… Gnai always felt awkward talking about its planet and culture, but it had to remind itself. The Federation was founded on such principles, that there was strength in diversity and in the collaboration of different cultures. But enough about the Galadorans… what about Betazoids?

Gnai: ~ What’s Betazed like then? I ::partial:: was only there briefly to transfer to the Artemis. Before CloQ snapped me ::partial:: into the past. ~

Gnai watched as Genkos tilted his head. Humanoids had all sorts of fascinating expressions that they made with their bodies. It could replicate some of them, shrugs and hand signals, but anything like tilting its head was out of the question. What was he… thinking about?

Adea: ~ I’m sure everyone says their home planet is beautiful, and I am no different. It’s a matriarchy, which is unusual in this part of the universe. It means that the females of the species are more dominant - at least historically ~

Gender was something that Gnai knew of tangentially, but only paid attention to for politeness’ sake. Words that indicated gender were another thing that Gnai had struggled with when learning Federation Standard, but with enough time, it had caught on. It was another oddity about humanoids - it couldn’t fathom what such an experience as having a gender would be like. It just was Gnai, a Galadoran like the rest of them.

Gnai: ~ Ah yes. A strange thing to base a society on. ~

At that moment, the bushes ahead of them rustled violently for a moment, before Toto appeared a foot in the air. He flew through the leafy bush, bursting through the foliage with gay abandon.

When he came skittering to a halt at Genkos’ feet, the doctor knelt down to stroke his head and recoiled his hand. Gnai’s suit knelt down in the grass to take a closer look at the dog, and at what Genkos’ had reacted to so strongly.

Adea: What have you got all over you boy? Is that sap?

With hesitance, Gnai reached out to touch the dog as well with its mechanical hand. After a brief brush, it brought the arm back to look closer at what had been stuck to the fur. The substance didn’t look like sap as far as Gnai knew - upon closer inspection, it was much more pigmented. Was it bleeding?

Gnai: ~ Is Toto okay? ~

Adea: Response

That was a relief. If Toto had gotten hurt when they were off strolling on their own, caught up in their telepathic conversations and very much not keeping track of the dog… Gnai would have felt horrible.

It rubbed the substance between the fingers of its suit, looking intently as it moved and covered part of the pad in a deep ruddy brown color.

Gnai: Wait… Is this-

A sharp yell rang out across the trail, and an elderly Bajoran man came hobbling up, practically steaming with rage. His vestments were a vibrant orange and an understated brown, with a close fitting hood that exposed just his ears and face. But the brown trim of his robes seemed far more… avant-garde in its styling, compared to the clerical pomp of the rest of his get-up. As he grew closer, the rough edges of splashes and paw-prints were evident towards where they trailed above the ground.

In his right hand, he held a half-finished canvas, depicting a stately Bajoran Moba tree… marred with a large streak of the same brown that had come off of Toto’s coat. And more than one pawprint. This painting was thrust in Genkos’ face, and shook with a purpose.

Ornery Vedek: You! Keep better control of your beast! ::shaking the painting harder:: It’s gone and ruined this canvas, and jumped all over me. Look! ::grasping the side of his robes with his other hand to shake them and draw attention to the mess Toto had made with his paints::

Genkos: Response

Gnai had no idea what to do, so it motioned Toto to slip behind it, perhaps the old Vedek would find himself cooling down slightly if the dog was more out of sight. Hopefully he would just yell at Genkos (not Gnai, please and thank you) and then go off on his merry way, pleased with telling off the young Starfleet officers.

Ornery Vedek: Keep your dog under control, or don’t bring it here. ::jabbing a finger at Genkos’ chest:: If I see it running around again, I shall call the constabulary. And you’ll be thrown out.

He finished his threat with a huff. Starfleet officers, trampling around in his arboretum, with their dogs and little concern for the peace and tranquility of an old vedek! The nerve of some people…

Genkos: Response
