((Short Walk Later - Exterior Afalqi Project Complex - Meranuge IV))
Arm extended, tricorder beeping and following the location marker, 300 metres from the hangar. She could feel the increasing tension, she supposed being almost crushed by an out of control gantry that had been triggered to destroy you was likely to do that.
Munro: Not long now. Be cautious.
Bancroft: Two hundred meters ahead on the… ::scowling at his tricorder:: right.
Ava nodded her agreement, that did seem to be the location the tricorder indicated. Beyond a pneumatic gate that was wide open, she could see large storage crates, not unlike the kind that you'd see in any cargo bay of any transport ship. There were tendrils of vapour oozing out from several of them.
Tarsan: How many of the engineers did they say had gone with them? I can’t sense.. anyone
Bancroft: That’s a great point. Where is everyone?
Munro: They've cleared the facility. Probably information containment and to let us work without too much influence. The Da'al government likely wants to control the narrative of what's happened here and Starfleet's involvement.
Ava didn't have to be a Betazoid to notice the tension. She saw the hands hover around the phasers. The tautness in their movements. Not good. Didn't she also feel it, something in the air?
Tarsan: There should be at least… someone here, right?
A flicker of movement broke the stillness just beyond one of the storage tanks – precisely where their tricorders had been directing them.
Bancroft: ::softly:: Eyes up.
Tarsan: It’s not Da’al, I’d be able to sense them…
Munro: Not necessarily, the Da'al have their own inherent psionic abilities, and we don't know the extent of that. When the Artemis assisted with the asteroid strike the Da'al and the telepathic crew were all equally affected by the Da’allium. It made them go insane.
As they stepped through the open gate, they saw what it was that was moving. An automated phaser turret. Free standing.
Another trap. It whirred around when it detected them.
Tarsan: Is that… a turret? Get down!
Munro: Take cover!
Bancroft: Response
Moving quickly, she huddled behind the crates along with Tarsan as the phaser turret began firing.
Tarsan: Someone really doesn’t want us to find out what’s going on here!
Munro: We must be onto something!
Bancroft: Response
The turret fired again, it was obvious to her that they wouldn't be able to get out of cover unless they disabled the turret.
Tarsan: I can’t get a shot, maybe I can distract it somehow?
Munro: That's a good idea. It can only fire at one target at a time.
Bancroft/Tarsan: Response
Munro: Can you overload your phaser? Roy and I will draw it's fire and you make sure you take it out with your phaser, Tarsan?
Once she'd got confirmation, she indicated to Roy to hold his position but fire at the phaser turret.
Bancroft/Tarsan: Response
Munro: Ready!
She carefully shot her phaser at the turret, in sync with the others. Several Da'al security officers approached, possibly to find out what the situation was, and immediately they began to take fire from the turret. One of them was struck and fell backwards.
