(( Elysium – Deck 6, USS Artemis ))

MacKenzie, Nicholotti, and Genkos sat tucked away in a corner of the Elysium discussing their years of service together. The highest-ranked of the bunch brought up how they all initially met: three previously unfamiliar officers ordered by Starfleet Command to recommission the Resolution and head to the Borderlands.

Nicholotti: Remember when they just told us all to be aboard and get on with it, without ever having properly met?

Kali grinned; Addison shook her head.

Nicholotti: Now look at us.

MacKenzie: The most patchwork group of derelicts you’ve ever seen, and Starfleet says “good luck.”

Kali laughed as Genkos gestured towards their glasses before taking her hand again.

Adea: But at least you brought a bottle of wine that first day too.

Grinning, Nicholotti shrugged.

Nicholotti: I guess that was the first sign it was meant to be. Or that we were all in a lot of trouble.

Having the benefit of hindsight, probably a little of both. Now, it was MacKenzie’s turn to finish her wine and set her glass down on the table. Once again, she sat back into the couch, crossing one leg over the other. She offered a nonchalant shrug.

MacKenzie: I think we turned out alright.

Adea: I agree… ::smirking:: Shame about those underneath us though.

Nicholotti: Can't say I hear too much in the way of complaints.

MacKenzie rocked her head back and forth slightly, indicating her skepticism. While Command may not have always approved of how they handled certain scenarios, the trust and friendships formed during those years together were crucial to their sustenance in their chosen careers. A comfortable silence settled over the trio before she finally spoke again.

MacKenzie: You planning on making the Eagle an extended stay?

Genkos shifted in his seat to face Kali.

Adea: Do please say yes.

Kali, in turn, raised an eyebrow and looked between them.

Nicholotti: For the time being we're on a yearlong survey mission. After that, who knows.

That was a true statement. And one that rang true for each of them. Any posting – any job – was only temporary. They were all at the mercy of any hierarchical figure that decided their talents were better spent elsewhere. Then, it was just a swipe of an order before they got reassigned… to a new ship, a new sector of the galaxy, or, heavens forbid, a desk job.

MacKenzie: If you’re happy now, that’s all that matters.

With a particularly vague answer, Kali seemed eager to get away from the topic. Genkos, however, found a new angle to approach the question.

Adea: Who looks after your sickbay, by the way? Do they need a course in Genkos-i-fying the place?

It was good to hear Kali laugh about it.

Nicholotti: I've got a couple of fresh medical ensigns, but they've really risen to the challenge. If there's a chance in the seven hells that I could steal you for a time though...

The Commodore looked over to Addison with a knowing smirk. MacKenzie shook her head before looking to Genkos, then back at Kali again.

MacKenzie: Greedy. One Sickbay not enough for him. ::to Kali:: Never satisfied, this one. But, I’ll have to fight you for him…

It was her turn to smirk.

Nicholotti: Thought that might be the case. Besides, who would watch her back if you're not here? You know how starship holes seem to be attracted to her.

Addison shook her head.

MacKenzie: Dakora isn’t allowed near my Ready Room ever again.

Adea: Response

Kali laughed again.

Nicholotti: Maybe it's the red hair.

MacKenzie: I’d like to think it’s earned me a reputation. That, and the growing reputation for airlocking people who cause trouble.

Adea: Response

She smirked. While the rumors that she would airlock people at will were categorically false, she enjoyed that people approached her as though they were true. It certainly played in her favor that they’d recently lost a new recruit from the Academy to an airlock accident…

Nicholotti: Any idea what command will have you guys doing after this?

MacKenzie shook her head disconcertingly.

MacKenzie: Things have been quiet in the Borderlands… And you know what that means…

Adea/Nicholotti: Response

It was never a good sign when the powers in the Borderlands seemed to be in check. During her service in the campaign region, just when things started to feel calm was when galactic tensions escalated, or a crisis manifested…

MacKenzie: I suppose we’ll wait to see what the universe throws at us. Personally, I wouldn’t mind a quiet survey mission…

Adea/Nicholotti: Response

MacKenzie: What about for the Eagle? Any idea what’s next?

Nicholotti/Adea: Response

Tag, and TBC!
